NFL suspended Saints RB Mark Ingram four games for violating the league's PED policy.
This one comes out of nowhere, though you could say that about most PED bans. Headed into his eighth season in the league, Ingram has never before been suspended. The Saints don't go on bye until Week 6, so Ingram will be eligible to return in Week 5. Ingram has battled the injury bug at times during his career, but he appeared in all 16 games each of the past two seasons. His absence will leave a huge opening for all-world young runner Alvin Kamara to command an even bigger role. Kamara's early 2018 ADP is already that of a mid-first rounder. It's the worst possible start to Ingram's contract year.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Julian Edelman is facing a four-game suspension for violating the league's PED policy but is appealing.
This kind of news isn't supposed to get out before the appeals process is through, but it usually does. Like the vast majority of suspended players, Edelman is likely to lose his appeal. It's a major blow for a team that let Danny Amendola walk in free agency before trading Brandin Cooks. Of course, the Pats were already without Edelman in 2017 as he recovered from a torn ACL. He's turned 32 in the interim. Chris Hogan is now set up to be a fantasy monster for the first four weeks of the season, though Tom Brady's target delineation figures to be unpredictable. Including James White, Rex Burkhead, Kenny Britt, Jordan Matthews, Malcolm Mitchell and perhaps even sixth-rounder Braxton Berrios, there is no shortage of potential beneficiaries.
Kellen Winslow Jr. allegedly raped at least 2 women in their 50s -- and tried to rape at least two more, including an 86-year-old woman ... this according to law enforcement.
As we previously reported, Winslow was arrested Thursday for multiple felonies including forcible rape and forcible sodomy.
Now, according to the criminal complaint ... the victims were older women.
Kellen allegedly kidnapped and raped a 54-year-old woman in March.
He allegedly kidnapped and sodomized a 59-year-old woman in May.
And, earlier this month, he allegedly committed burglary with the intent to rape a 71-year-old woman and an 86-year-old woman.
Winslow is due in court later today. He faces life in prison if convicted on all counts.
The NFL distributed more than $8 billion in national revenue, mostly from its television deals, in 2017.
Each team pulled in $255 million, according to financials revealed on Monday by the Green Bay Packers, a team that is a public company because it sells shares from time to time to raise money, even though its shares are technically worthless.
The bump is an increase of 4.9 percent in national revenues, attributed to an escalator in the league's TV deals and the league's Thursday Night Football package becoming more valuable.
Packers president Mark Murphy said any effects from the NFL's tough season, including the national anthem controversy, did not manifest in the books.
