Bigger doesn't necessarily mean safer. Both these vehicles hit the same barrier at the same speed:

Smart is a good concept that is horribly horribly overpriced.
Having said that I test drove one on city and highway and it drove, rode and handled really really well. I was surprised at how quiet and comfortable it really was. The paddle shifters were kinda fun too.

It's an $11k Mercedes. How is that overpriced?

11? The one I drove was 21k
If they sold for 11 i'd be driving one right now.

They start at $11,599. That's base model with no options. But it does start at $11k. And many sedans that start around there can easily get over $20k with options. So it's no different, except it's better gas mileage.
My husband and I are considering buying one to offset his Trans Am mileage.

"it's suprisingly roomy"
"it's suprisingly fast"
No, it's not roomy, shut the **** up.
The second quote usually accompanies the prius. 0-60 in 12 to 14 seconds... No, it isn't suprisingly fast, it's slow as ****, stop ****ing saying that.

Hey, if it works for the people who have it, why bash it? It's an economy car. It's great for people who live in the city. It's also great for people who do all highway driving. It's even good for people who do mixed driving. It gets better gas mileage than most cars, especially at comparable price. Sure, it runs on super, but it gets better mileage than most cars that run super, and even better than many that run on regular. And it's way less than a Prius, and much more economically friendly (Prius requiring battery disposal and such when they die, as well as other known factors making it no where near the worth of the car) as well as financially better.
No reason to bash it. It works for those who have it. If it's not right for you, don't get it.

It IS surprisingly roomy. There is plenty of space for the driver and passenger to accommodate persons probably up to 6'6 and you can fit a lot of ****ing **** in the car. My coworker and I loaded up his SMARTcar with 6 HP towers, 6 HP 15" monitors, and various other items with room to spare. I bet you it can store more than your ****ing Viper can.
The only thing the car REALLY needs are some stiffer springs to keep it from bucking so much during shifting. It is truly an automated MANUAL transmission, so it takes some getting used to on when it shifts and how to make it shift smoothly.

They just got the one they ordered The waiting list for these cars, no joke, is 20 months. The only reason my coworker got one was because he paid an extra 1500 dollars to get in 3 months instead of 20.

nothing wrong with being small or slow...
People need to stop claiming it isn't though.
OMG i test drove a prius and its actually fast guys!(someone seriously made a thread here on tw stating this).
No. It's not, and it is not supposed to be.
My only actual problem with the car is that it gets 33\41mpg... Can't some regular sized volkswagons do this? the civic?

The Smart isn't really the staple of gas economy. It does very, very well, but yes, there are cars who do better. However, the Smart is cheaper to purchase, plus takes less to produce (thus saving even more oil-based products and technologies required to produce a car), and is cheaper to maintain.

My Trans Am gets decent gas mileage when I'm not burying the pedal all week, and its moded pretty decently even.

I was crunching numbers and just can't see it being that feasible right now for me to purchase one. I could afford it, but I was be spreading myself too thin and I decided that is a bad idea. I was really sold on the idea though. It is a great little car, pretty good gas mileage, Mercedes Benz safety, and actually really fun to drive.
I think the car would be great for me to drive around town because it gets better city mileage than my 08 VW GTi, but on the freeway its pretty damn close (I get ~35mpg in my 2.0T).
