Star Trek: Discovery & Orville Trailers

i mean the whole point of a star trek show is to tell self-contained stories, it is completely unadaptable to the modern ongoing drama model with a cliffhanger every week and eight thousand plot twists to maximize binge watching

that std trailer just looked like bsg with even more obvious liberal propaganda (which is pretty hard to accomplish)

orville looks like more dogshit for the 90 iq crowd

If they did a limited, 13 episode run with a decent arc they'd be fine. If they try to do a 23 episode season they're going to run into trouble. The production costs look pretty extreme, and unless they're pulling 15 million viewers they're going to experience budget shortfalls real quick.

Orville will be even worse in that regard, as I'm sure MacFarlane's per episode fee will end up tanking the show.

Higher ratings, higher syndication prices. Plus the actors can work in a single location and get a million an episode without worrying filming on location, doing a year of promotion, only to see it flop.

The new Star Trek series is online only - cbs all access, which I don't know of a single person that pays for it, no way is it going to have good viewing numbers

For the other countries, Netflix will release each episode of the series for streaming within 24 hours of its U.S. debut.

So going have use a VPN to pretend I'm not in the USA... reverse from when I use it when in PI

Many of the shows follow the same pattern. Ship rolls up on some weird aliens. They either beam down to planet, or guests beam on to ship. Weird shit happens, a couple crew members are killed. Main characters figure out what's going on (usually the captain is in every scene). Tension rises until the last minute when maliciously they come up with a solution. Or in some shows, the aliens are taken away by their parents or just decide to disappear.

Some of the ideas are cool when they involve time travel, the holodeck, or being transferred far away. Otherwise, it's all fluff talking with 5 minutes of action.

What's going to be screwed up about this show, is it supposedly happens 10 years before the original series. So how can you have all this new technology with CGI graphics, then watch the original shows? It doesn't make sense to go back in time like that.

Discovery is completely fucked.

They've butchered it in pursuit of exploiting a brand for its potential to make money and totally made hash out of even that possibility.

It's a cold depressing day in the universe when Seth MacFarlanes spoof of Star Trek makes for better Star Trek than actual Star Trek makes of Star Trek.

If the following is even half true, it affirms what many already suspected:

uhh that shouldn't be surprising in the least.

that's just some fucking star trek nerd having a heart attack over shit being non-canon. who gives a fuck? if it's good, it's good, it doesn't have to be true to star trek in every sense of the franchise. I will give it a shot because it's scifi, but my expectations are pretty low. doesn't mean I won't give it a shot. I also don't plan on being overly critical because I haven't spent my life wasted on star trek.

MacFarlane is a funny motherfucker. I'll watch the Orville pilot at least. I'm sure FOX will cancel the show half way into the season so it's not like it matters.

That Star Trek looks dumb as fuck. Will not watch. SJW Affirmative Action liberal bullshit.
