Guns are fairly complicated machines and it's no surprise that lawmakers are jumping at the chance to make new rules about them without even trying to understand them OR THE EXISTING LAWS first. They do this **** all the time. Name a subject. Somebody, somewhere has probably tried to enact a grossly incompetent law about it. The media doesn't help either...

Ok, kid porn anime dude. Unlike you I'm not hyper defensive at the idea that maybe there could be some improvements in gun control.
But you keep railing about how you're gonna need that suppressor when it's time to 'rise up' again the gov.

Again just look at Canada for nonsense gun regulation steeped in ignorance.
AK-47 prohibited entirely
AR-15 restricted only to range use
Tavor or xcr, non-restricted do whatever you want with it
****ing idiots. The whole lot of them.

i just wish more people were honest with their intentions
what they really want to say is **** you......you aren't a person
you shouldn't be able to defend yourself or your property
and we will continue to tell you what to do with all of it
especially the good parts we want to redistribute and take for our greater good
just look at south america and all of africa (next to be Europe) for how well this will work out historically
or just go back to China during any period in last several centuries
oh well.......tw doesn't make law we just laugh at them

1. Enforce the laws already on the books. There are thousands of them and enforcement is a ****ing joke. Start there. I'm sure a few of them will even have a measurable impact on crime.
2. Repeal the ones that don't make sense. There are thousands of them and they are ****ing stupid. Start with the NFA, GCA, and FOPA. Keep the bits that DO make sense if you must (see, I can be reasonable!).
3. Abolish so called "gun free zones". They are a failed idea that assumes people with violent criminal intent will see a sign and give up.
There's 3 easy things we can start doing now that don't require a bunch of new legislation. The POTUS has in his power to order the DOJ to aggressively prosecute existing gun laws, and Congress can get to work on repealing/ammending the rest.
There are more guns in this country than there are people. WE KNOW ABOUT roughly 300 million of them. Those are only the ones we know about. And we have the manufacturing capacity to produce many more. The United States will always be an armed country. There's no escaping it. You're not going to wake up one day and all the guns are magically gone along with all the knowledge and capability to create them. The cat is already out of the bag. Knowing that, it makes the most sense to encourage those most willing and able to arm themselves in their own (and in the collective) defense.

That post was directed at tele because hes about to bomb this thread like the maga thread.
Im not advocating a ban on firearms and i never did. I advocate much stricter control and its mainly your last paragraph i disagree the the most with.
If you have stricter control the number of guns will decrease over the years. (The exisiting ones ultimately get worn out/break/straight up get tossed in the lake or lost in the woods for that matter) and if you then restrict the amount going out on the market; of course overall number of guns will decrease over time.
Like i argued in a previous wall of text in this thread: strict control is the only solution. It would probably take decades if not a century or two before it was the 'new' normal but it would work. I mean if were not dead from nuclear winter by then. I understand its a bitter pill to swallow but the reasons given for needing to have liberal gun laws dont hold up in a western country in the 21st century.

When did I say that? Can you direct me to a specific post?
No, you can't. Of course not. If you'd bothered to read anything I actually said you'd know that I made the opposite point earlier, when I stated:

The existence of an armed, trained, and willing populace is very effective (if imperfect) at moderating government's power.

And if you're having trouble understanding what I said here, I can break it down for you:
The threat of armed revolt is sufficient to keep government in check. It makes actual armed conflict unnecessary... for the most part.
You're way out of your league. Get the **** out of here.
