meatboy is just sucky. it's a pure memo twitch game, there's no strategy to it so it isn't fun to play. it misses that classic games like gradius or super mario bros derive difficulty from their interplay, figuring out how things work and interact with each other. meatboy is totally flat design with incredibly strict timing, that isn't fun in anything but an unhealthy frustation/fix addictive model.

I almost beat Ghost n Goblins but could never quite do it.
Was a legend at Mr Do and Circus Charlie, played it the other year after a 30+ year break and all the trick moves and jump sequences came straight back, it was goddam freaky.

Fun fact, 1942 had Morse code in the background at the title screen. My friend's father actually knew it from serving in the military. Turns out it was complete gibberish, I was very disappointed.
