My paternal family are all democrats. West Virginia/Kentucky/Ohio coal mining and factory class with the occasional teacher or accountant thrown in. They wholesale switched allegience this past election cycle.
Democrats did a lot for them when business worked men 14 hours in a day and would forcibly evict them from their homes while at work also knowing they were paying them so little they were paycheck to paycheck. Anyone then sheltering them would likewise be evicted and would black ball agitants/strikers who wanted a decent living, nothing more. Oh not to mention in the 1920s actually bombing them with US Army Air Force Aircraft.
They all switched to Trump as the breaking point in middle america has been reached among white folk. There are still respectable democrats in certain Southern/Midwestern states but any democrat from a major urban area or coast minus South Carolina and south is a complete shill. Those democrats from say Louisiana still tow the national party line in many regards but are clearly a different breed - engage in straight talk while having a different view point which I respect, rather than PC policed language with an agenda to undermine. The coasties are too idealistic for being able to sit in their major urban centers without having any sort of fear of missing the basic needs that defined the human condition since Industrialization has started, i.e. the post industrial society we are in now.
The right wing is full of dreamers too predominately particularly among Christians as elective alturism still encourages a base level of socialism, and is where a lot of Midwestern/Southern Democrats arrive from, particulaly those areas with lots of emigration to from Central/Northern Europe in the 1880s to 1910s such as the Farmer-Labour orientated democrats of Minnesota. Obviously though, look at the shit show the Somalis have brought to Minneapolis. Up here in Burlington they're the known crime element outside of the opiate pushers, oh and New Yorkers hah. I say that last bit being a New York born and spending a third of the year in that state, but facts are facts and NYers bring a far disproportionate amount of crime to VT.

Sure, but not without a ton of internal histrionics. Truth is Dems only win the Presidency when they have a charming candidate. Race (or qualifications) had nothing to do with Obama's election. It was because he was charming. It's also the reason why Clinton, Kerry, and Gore lost. It's why Warren, Booker, and Harris stand little chance of being President.
I think the dems go with Booker because they won before with a black man and he’s a generation younger than Warren.
If the economy tanks, he's president.
If the economy is still rolling along, it’s a toss up.
