we just had a big discussion last week about that sort of stuff. you look at a website and say 'thats crap', and assume its the fault of the people who built it. but in truth you never really know if, or how, they were handicapped in designing that site.

allowing your customer to dictate important design decisions leads to a shitty product.

If you let the customer/client/boss destroy the website, you aren't really doing your job. Your customers are counting on you to protect them from themselves.
