[Religion] "I want my kids to decide for themselves"

Aren't you guys gonna' wail on me about believing the Earth is only 4k years old, or that dinosaurs never existed or that Darwin was wrong?

Oh, c'mon guys! Go that route! It's so much easier for me when you assume so much about my beliefs!

kids in hardcore christian families are the most fucked up people I've ever met. Half the kids I went to jr high with in Utah ended up being drug addicts. If they dont rebel and go off on a 3 year binge or drug holiday, they're justification for everything is "god said so". My dad put me in catholic private school for a couple years, my step dad was mormon, and my gramps used to take me to his lutheran church. All I saw were self gratifying egotists saying how shitty everyone else was and how good they were. Religion is a waste of my time.

Yeah, you just illustrated how many irresponsible parents could benefit from having their children raised under a benevolent religion!
:bigthumb:

I believe we just proved each other's points.

You, that irresponsible parents use religion to teach morals.

Me, that you're an irresponsible parent.

if someone wants to act like a dipshit so other people will call him a dipshit

i have no problem being the other people

my mother raised me and my sister catholic

my sister joined a more baptist style new age church, loves jesus and all that jazz

I don't go to church at all

so... aside from the fact that we both believe in God we're on opposite ends of the spectrum

My child has great healthcare, is well-fed and sleeps like--well, a baby. She's under 2-years-old and yet she says "please," "thank you," "pardon me," and "God bless you."

I think that I'm going to let this thread fester a bit--it's already starting. And how extraordinary that it's the non-religious types who are offering their best shots at my character and engaging in paltry diatribe.

The non-religous sure can do that, hah!?

Fngr, how can you believe dinosaurs never existed?

Yes I agree you should raise them according to your beliefs and they will draw their own conclusions. The part people get caught on is not properly answering questions that relate to the secular (outside) world they encounter in school and with friends. But they are your kids so this probably comes naturally. I think if you really are true to what you believe, your kids will do fine, even if you don't teach them. You are the example, so they will compare you to their friends & teachers. They have to make their own minds up.

As for a practical program, reading 2 chapters a day I think is a pretty decent way to go.
