The difference between "real hip hop" and the **** that's popular these days is simply content.

It's all open to interpretation, and wether or not you like the artist in question the point is that they contributed some good content rather than just using their image and payola to get by.

@ Travace:
I actually surfed through my hip hop folder in traktor to get those names.
I play most of whats on the list there regularly.

I intentionally left out some artists cause they fell off or sold out.

i dont agree with the full list but for the most part you just brought back lots of memorys. I use to spin a lot of that stuff when i was a teen/young adult. I cant even tell you how many women grinded on me while playing a lot of those artists

one thing that always amazed me was how much females actualy like Too$hort.

Anything with sub bass gets the ladies grinding I find.
I've noticed the same thing about the too short thing. I guess it is testament to how much of a pimp he really is. :p

Im interested to hear some of your fav pics, I'm always looking for new stuff or those obscure jems that only vinyl heads can scrounge up.

Great list luvs. Although I can't stand the Dirty South, Outkast should be included on the list. Every time I listen to some of their older stuff, I feel as though I am peeling back layers of complexity.

checkout Project Blowed - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia i knew these guys and they almost filmed a music vid at my house cause they liked the vibe i had going on here. I got to DJ the pre show for Aceyalone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia who was part of the Freestyle fellowship once... was a cool experience. also check out Abstract Rude - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia he has a song called red lights that is awesome.

as for some others that i use to like a lot...

Outcast southerplayalistic
Digital Underground
Masta Ace
Ahmad-- Back in the day (this song was so good)
wasnt too much into gangster rap but MC Eiht was really good
GZA/Genius --- L:iquid Swords
E-40
Goodie Mob
The Beatnuts
The Roots
was part of hiro but IMO oneof the best lyricist ever Del tha Funkee Homosapien
The Nonce ....
