[T3] Beta questions.

Uncle Silas

Veteran X
For a game that isn't even announced this is a forward thinking question, and I'm sure it's too early to ask this....but anyway...

Judging from what might be called a 'rough' release of T2 is there going to be a closed beta and, if so, do the valiant TW humpers get our names at the top of the list?

It makes sense to have a relatively large community testing the game before the big release date. :D

;)

it was answered in a Q&A that there will be an open play test (remember quake 3?)

Even if there was a closed beta I don't think tribal "it's cool for a week and then it sucks" war would be the best place to hold it. Of coure it will be something special if it's able to grasp the intrests on the masses.

Are you fellas going to have some old t1 / t2 maps thrown in there as well?

let's hope not. I would much rather have the t3 mappers work on new maps and new ideas than rehash old ones (that may/may not be played). Remaking old maps should be left up to the community IMHO.

How about just putting them in their own category.... you could vote for them if you wanted them, and they can easily be kept out of rotation. The servers that want them would be able to throw them into the mix as well.

I doubt they will spend the time to bring us the glorious T1 maps though. Even if they did, they almost certainly won't be as much fun as we remember :(.

I think they could do sequel maps and those would be cool. Not the same map but like: "Raindance 2", now the vally is hevily forested cuz a lot of trees grew there or something and they remodeled the bases. Or Damnation 2, where rather than a pound there's a big damnwall and a drop off on the sides :]

But, for god's sake, if you're going to remake old maps don't do it like UT2k3's Facing Worlds 3. Just because you can use 8000 new tricks and eye candy doesn't mean you should.

Most folks don't give a damn how a map looks after the first five minutes, as long as it's fun. :)
