Why I'm not playing T2

Hey all!

I just wanted to bring my thoughts to this topic. I havnt read through all of the thread, (I dont have time to, you guys post way too much...:p) but I get the general theme.

First off I want to say that I respect Natural. Not just because he is a very talented player, but also a nice person in real life. Ive been around almost as long as he has in the Tribes community, and have watched him, and his team dominate the T1 comp. Ive met him at Tribes Camp and Tribes Gala, both times one of the nicest guys you could ever meet, no ego included.

That being said, I don't personally agree with his reasoning for not wanting to play T2. HOWEVER, I am not flaming him for his opinion of T2. That is for him to decide, not for me or anyone else. I respect his OPINION of T2. My opinion differs from his though. I think T2 is a pretty good game. Yes it is different from T1, but I am still having a great time with it. Our team has not played in comp yet, but our practices have been just as fun for me as T1 was. To be honest, I have only played T1 once since T2 came out, and that was with my SuN buddies. I do think it is sad that T2 is loosing one of this communities best players.

In conclusion I just want to say one thing for everyone listening. Don't let one person's opinion of T2 (or any game for that matter) be the only factor in determining your own opinion.

I'm a vet from T1, and I love T2.

I didn't want to go through another year or two of the same old crap that happened in Tribes 1. It was fun while it lasted, but win or lose I just got bored with it. Actually, sometimes I'm bored with Tribes 2 as well. Maybe I'm just tired of Tribes altogether.

Werd.

I've been playing Deus Ex and Homeworld lately. Haven't tried Deus Ex multiplayer, but it looks pretty cool.

This post is so disgusting I can feel vomit creeping up my throat. If someone can do anything 10X better than you, then you suck and should give up at whatever that it is you're doing.
No sir...I think your comment here is a little ridiculous...others have already owned your logic here.

you have heard too many fairy-tales about Natural or something, you are just the kind of guy I make fun of in my posts about riding the coat-tails of great players, because you can't think big enough of yourself to imagine that you could be that good.

Ummm...yea, anyway. Dood..I dont ride on Nats coat tails. I could own him if the opportunity presented itself :) ...thing is though...I have been playing this game pretty much since it came out...and have been apart of this community...in one way or another since it was started. I played against Nat when I was in =CK=...FUCKING OLD SCHOOL DAYS...when BMF, TF, KBD, Synergy, and IE all ruled the top 10. I know exactly how good he was. He invented things in Tribes that up until T2's release were still being used in competition. Shit...and he invented these things in the very beginning.

Im sorry I have a little respect for someone that has the capacity to innovate ahead of anyone else...and basically define the way a position is played. So I say to you...maybe you are lacking a little history...and someone should give you a refresher course so you can STFU and STFD. [/quote]

It's pathetic, you should really have more respect for yourself. "Tribes history making statement" that is what really makes my throat burn. Anyone that decides whether or not they are going to play T2 based on some guys opinion on the game should :stab: die, and from what you sound like, that's you :stab:. MAYBE YOU GOT AUTO OPS IN #IE!!!!

Heh, Umm, I stopped playing T2 about 3 weeks ago. Natural just posted a few hours ago...I dont see where you get saying just cuz he says he doesnt like the game...means that I think I shouldnt like the game too.

I have whored the game for hours on end in pubs, scrims, and matches but getting anything done in T2 CTF seems like it requires a large investment of teamwork and time but only yields a small return gameplay wise and even less of a return in entertainment value. T2 CTF is a slow ass game, so don't bullshit others on how exciting it is. CTF is the LEAST entertaining game type in T2 yet everyone feels compelled to play it.

I agree Nat. Good calls. One more thing I would like to add is that I hate the skiing in T2. Especially the way they screwed the heavies over. Yeah, yeah, I have heard all that Teamplay shit before, but I still contend that 4 LD who are badass with disks is a lot better and more intuitive than a D with turrets and RLs. Sorry, maybe its a preference of style, but I feel a helluva a lot better when I knock the shit outta someone with a disk than if I hit them with a RL.

OK...back to the question I asked earlier amidst my flame...maybe it was overlooked cuz the post was too hot :/

To all the T1 veterans playing T2...Im not asking CS/Q1-Q3/UT/HL/Renegaydes players because your opinion doesnt matter to me.

Question:

What if TheRedDread was frontin the $2000 grand for the T1 ladder and not the T2 ladder...or maybe even both? Would you still be playing T2? I mean all things being equal...for example..$2000 for both T1 and T2 ladders...which would you choose to play? I see a lot of people saying they dont play T1 becaus the competition has gone...well...what if there was equal competition in each game...Which would you choose? Be honest with me and yourself.

OK this is starting to sound like Everquest to me now. I'm waiting for the +10 llama insults to start getting flung. :hrm:

Quantify it for me.

Tell me how much 10x more skill in basketball is.

Break the whole thing down, starting with 1x.

Perhaps 1x could be shooting and dribbling etc.
2x could be more advanced shooting, dribbling, and passing.

Illuminate all of us with your knowledge.

All I can say is that I love t2. The whole teamwork thing is great. Now it's not just about 28 pings and going on a single flag run by yourself. It's like playing D&D was on Nerz's was with the FT guys. Actually using the chat screen to do something other than say "ahhh i have a 90 ping, i can't move!". Tribes 2 is not a bad game at all, it's just your opinon and what YOU wanted in it. Nat said "it was one person's idea, not many" well wtf? You are putting in your personal way you want it to be... I'm missing something. And I know you are thinking that there are a lot of people on your side, but there are a lot of people on the side of the dev team as well. Hope to see you in t1, which still owns :)

Remember, t2 is not t1 mod, its a NEW GAME

Thats retarded. Roller is 800 meters flag to flag. River is 1003 meters. Are you saying that you can ski faster in T2 (over water) so much so that you can make up the 200 meter difference? Uhm, no. Everyone knows for the most part that T2 bases are much larger distances than T1 bases. Plus you can ski in T1, where it feels like you're skiing with an anchor in T2.

In this particular case it's 25-30 seconds (RD) vs 15-25 seconds (RC).

It takes longer, yes, but not that much longer.

I have to say yes I would, I played T1 everyday for over 2 years and I have pretty much played myself out in that game for a while. Synergy on the most part has very few members that still play T1 and most of them are unable to play Tribes 2 yet. Don't get me wrong Tribes is a great game and will always be, But I had rather move on than get so burned out on a game that I can't stand it anymore. Over all I think most of Synergy likes Tribes 2 simply because most of us do not play in the pubs that much. We either scrim or practice in our own servers. One thing that holds true is Tribes 2 is much better when there is an organized effort, you just cannot get that on a pub.

my 2 cents...

T2 is a different game.
T1 was getting old and repetitive.
T2 does require more teamwork, however I've already seen 1st hand that the teams that were great in T1 are great in T2. The same dedication and teamplay is required.

Anyone who thinks D is easy has only played pubs.
I ask anyone who thinks D is easy to have their team play Team Fusion on any given map and see if you can keep your flag home.

The latest patch really did make the game more T1-ish. The skiing is better and fps is better. I still see chainwhoring and sniping ld's from hell.

I guess it comes down to time. Give the game time to form and let teams develop strats that work. If you don't like the game, simply don't play it.

I for one, totally enjoy it and have no real issues with the game. I like that offense is harder, I like that the bases are bigger, I like that the maps are bigger.....If it was the same as T1, why even make a sequel?

Its called......"challenging"
If you could master the game in a week..........it would suck.

I've been playing Serious Sam lately. What a fun, pretty game. Wish we could have T2 gameplay with those graphics.

But I still play a lot of T2. It's a pretty fun game. Different from T1, though, and not as fun.

To those that are still on the "teamwork" kick: Please. Download some nice old IE demos from Nat's POV and watch what's happening on the flagstand as he approaches. He's got 2 people (Warnipple and others) clearing for him before he makes his grab, and he's got escorts on the way back.

I've been on the recieving end of an IE smackdown before - and this was before things like minediscing were popular. There was a load of teamwork happening on offense AND defense. There is no "cowboy" nature to that kind of play. So please...do some homework before you blindly cast your judgement on someone who's played Tribes for a long time. His opinion is one to listen to - obviously, 15 pages of responses back that up.

First to the NewBs telling Natural he's just not a teamplayer. IE was one of the best TEAMS in T1. You don't get that respect without earning it. Everyone liked watching IE demos. You had to be a team in matches and they were.
Second. YES THE TURRETS ARE TOO STRONG. No one really has to D anymore. Just farm a million turrets or so and voila, instant D that's nearly impossible to even kill one of the damn things on one run.
Third. The disk does suck. I feel as Nat does on this one. It doesn't feel the same anymore. I use to love breaking one off in someone's ass but now it's lackluster. It has such a huge splash that it doesn't seem as skillful anymore.
Jetpacking from a tank? Whoever said "you have a jetpack" has evidentally not tried getting away from them or either stays in them contantly. Even a little nudge from it kills you.
I play T2 now that FPS are better but I also still play T1. And even though I don't have the same respect that say Natural gets, I do consider myself a vet.
T1 was the very first FPS shooter I really played online and I nearly wet myself on my first MA. T2 has killed the excitement. MAs are far too easy now and the laser sucks. Rocket turrets are kewl (warning before you get hit I like) I play mainly pubs cause I like them. T2 doesn't require teamwork, it requires everyone on your team to attack the base to kill off the turrets and then a "Cowboy" to bring it home. T2 isn't personal anymore. Look at the peeps talking to each other, THEY DON'T. I know it's not just me. There is far less socializing as before. That's what made T1 great as well. Everyone talked to each other whether it was smack or otherwise. It's no longer a community. I loved chatting with my homies in T1. No one does this anylonger.
Ehhhhhh post is too long and I could go on. If you don't like to hear people talk against the game then skip the posts. They have every right as you do to post what they like (1st amendment anyone?)

Kneeds hurtin from bein "down below" yet? Stop sucking Natural's dick and get your own opinion.

Serious Sam is on sale at CompUSA this week for 9.99. Think I'll pick it up.
