Goddamnit. Just lost my entire post due to a weak internet connection, so I'll summarize instead:

-ACA should have had a public option
-GOP whittled it down to a shell of itself with no public option. How many times did Obama try to reach across the aisle during this process? He compromised on numerous issues and gave Repubs many chances to come up with an alternative plan for this universally-acknowledged bleeding sore (i.e. healthcare). They came up with nothing.
-GOP is clearly in the corner of the for-profit health industry. The phrases "for-profit" and "health industry" do not belong in the same sentence. They are not looking out for common citizens. Even after the compromises, they have attempted to repeal approximately 40 times knowing it's a fruitless effort.
-They are now self-inflicting unquantifiable damage onto the economy because they are crybabies and because they are scared people might actually like it.
-The GOP also fought against Medicare, a very unpopular program (sarcasm)
-What would happen if the GOP tried to repeal Medicare today? They'd lose about 75% of their base faster than one can say "Ted Cruz is a dip****"

They should shut down the federal air traffic controllers to really grab people's attention. The last time the Republicans used this tactic it ended up hurting them in the next election; let's hope for a similar scenario.
The last time we had a government shutdown, the Republicans took over both houses of Congress for ten years and we got a Republican President for two terms, how exactly did it backfire?

And yet not a single Republican voted for this health bill the Democrats shoved through.

You also didn't notice how many Democrats are funded by the healthcare lobby/industry did you? Visit Open Secrets to find out.

Also the architects that wrote the healthcare law all work for Big Pharma or the insurance industry now and are making a killing.

Yet it is 'good for all'....... right.

I will never get over how quickly Republicans decided that the Dole plan they had been peddling for years as the "reasonable, intelligent alternative" to the Clinton plan was actually something that would destroy the economy and leave healthcare in ruins once a Democrat started pushing it.

Or on the flip side how quickly Democrats decided that the Dole plan was actually not a halfassed joke once it was tied to themselves.

Leave it shut down as long as it takes for delay then repeal

the consequences are acceptable considering the alternative, obamacare is going to be as bad if not worse than the patriot act

After looking up the numbers of the elections from 1996-2000, the Republicans did not lose as many seats as I thought. They maintained their majorities in both houses of Congress, although Dole did get his ass beat in the 1996 Presidential election. The Republicans lost a couple of House seats in 1996 and in the Senate in 1998, but nothing to signify a shift of any magnitude.

Well, let's hope for a different turnout this time! :]

I really doubt there will be any sort of delay on Obamacare unless current polling trends shift pretty dramatically. Dems have no incentive to cut a deal as long as polling majority continues to blame the GOP for the shut down.

That being said nobody votes in midterms anyway and everyone will have completely forgotten about this by the time of the next presidential election so it probably won't have a particularly huge effect on Republicans either. They're just trying to appeal to their base right now to avoid the dreaded RINO tag.

this is a consolidation of information, power and wealth of one of the largest portions of our economy, that reaches into the personal aspects of our lives, and sets presidents of government intrusion into our lives in ways contrary to the American system. If you think this is a petty thing you simply haven't done your research.

healthcare is ****ed up right now, this isn't the fix we want

The ACA is one of the best designed pieces of legislation in American history. Only its aims were hidden from the public.

Insurance rates for the vast majority of Americans, those who had existing insurance coverage prior to the ACA, are ballooning at a frightening rate, with increases of 45 to 200 percent being seen all around the country. This was an intended result of the law, pushing Americans unavoidably to the new healthcare exchanges and killing the for-profit insurance industry.

Elimination of denial for pre-existing conditions virtually ensures that young, healthy Americans will not purchase the coverage on the exchanges, since they can just pick it up if anything comes up medically. This guarantees that the exchanges will crumble under the weight of medical expenses without the necessary revenues of healthy customers to support them.

All of which leads us, inevitably, to single-payer nationalized healthcare.

It all would have been so much more straightforward and effective had they gone nationalized from the get-go. Something that is unavoidable and sorely needed anyway.
