38 studios MMO in development "Copernicus"

btw I officially take back my stance on being "owned". Seeing as it is the MMO business and the failure rate is high (albeit a lot of that is underfunded projects) it still stands to reason that 38 studios has not proven itself yet. I mean maybe I just missed the expert technical people when reading the bios, or the fact you are using bigworld takes some of that responsibility from you compared to blizzard/guildwars/warhammer but it still seems software engineer light. Although the MIT grad does alleviate some of that.

I guess in Jobs the fact that the only 2 openings are software engineers sorta addresses that fact. Obviously my post was more in TW fashion of being more "edgy" but there was some basis to it. If I had worded it less TW style and hadn't took digs at you I'm unsure if you would have felt the need to respond.

On that note though I hate PvE games so I probably won't be interested in it anyway (pvp 4 life)

next someones gonna bring up the fact that curt likes the idea and graphics for d3 and dac is gonna lose his shit.

Strega what's SOE's market share?

like 1%? Yeah I don't think he will be asking them for advice except to learn from their mistakes. EQ2 has less subscribers than EVE.

Blizzard has the biggest share, I don't know what SOE's share is, but it's way above 1%. I just work on the Network now, no more game designing or operations stuff for me.

SOE has some big things on the horizon which I'm happy to say I'm excited about.

Free Realms
DC Universe Online
The Agency

I think it's safe to say SOE will become less and less relevant in the MMO market.

poor lineage, wow really ate into its base. SOE needs a comeback bad.

You do realize that that graph looks totally ridiculous due to the sheer quantity of people playing WoW right? Oh, and 2/3 of WoW users are outside the US.

curt, as someone who doesn't play wow or any mmorpgs, played a beta of wow until like level.. 15 and only found amusement in naming a pet raptor 'aquaman,' what would you say your title would provide to bring me in as compared to say, any other mmo ever?

also i dont really know anything about baseball but i liked the giants a lot when i was a kid. is barry bonds a dick? would he have been a dick in the range of 7-9 years ago (this is when i liked baseball)

also would you like t play mercenaries 2 co-op? its really fun

thanks!

fag

Dude the only thing released on the game is the name and 5 concept drawings so I don't think he is gonna burst out with it on Tribalwar. They will probably work on some huge magazine/website deal to break loose all the initial information.

like i read the post really now, filsinger just told me earlier during mercs co-op (its fun curt trust me) about the post so i skipped around until i saw him call you a retarded faggot

also curt i wanted to pitch when i was in little league but the coaches son got the spot. i feel like you too have suffered adversity in your pursuit of baseball, this is somemthing we could relate to eachother with while blowing up gasoline tankers

Problem is you are talking about 'twitch' games, without saying it;) That's a scary line to cross in the online world.

If you can promise me every single player in our world will have the same latency and connection issues/non-issues, then you have got something.

awareness and acuity are in many cases time and reaction sensitive. There is CERTAINLY a place for it but there are pitfalls as well.

I would bet we'll all be in a much better place in a few years when Copernicus launches as far as internet connection goes, both in customer base and technical progress, but at the same time I would argue that just like you don't 'make a tech play' when creating a monster like this, you don't 'bet' on those things to be in place for your product to be good.

After playing countless games with the same low-level mechanics, more and more of which are going to keep on coming down the pipe, people are eventually going to want an MMO with twitch. I'm already there, but I'm not confused about why it just can't happen successfully yet.

Right now, as you say, on our far from perfect internet, it just can't work. I mean what do you do, for example, about people who run cheats in an online game that needs to be partially developed to trust the client for certain mechanics that can shift the balance of play? The impact of some asshat with an aimbot is amplified when you've got thousands of people with characters they've spent hundreds of hours developing and someone can just ruin their day without even having to try to actually play the game like everyone else.

So maybe if your game is a huge success and somewhere down the line the technology is advanced enough to pull something like this off, you can make that game for us too?

Great. Thanks buddy.
