Just finished reading both Starship Troopers (again) and Stranger in a Strange Land (first time) - only complaint is that SIASL felt a bit dated and in some places over-preachy but both still recommended readings by a big margin.
Also, on the advice of the thread, I'm about to start Hyperion.

Just finished "Blue Remembered Earth" by Allastair Reynolds. It was a fun, hard scifi read, but not nearly as good as the "Revelation Space" books. A very meh follow-the-dots mystery, sprinkled with some cool cyberpunk elements. Thinking about picking up "House of Suns" next.

Have been reading a couple of series by Evan Currie.
On Silver Wings us the first book in the Valkyrie series.
Odyssey One is the other series.
Both are good military sci-fi.

Has anyone read Pratchett's The Long Earth or The Long War?
I just bought books 2&3 of Memory, Sorrow and Thorn and a couple of Peter F. Hamilton to keep me going

Thanks I was wondering about that. Damn 2 years between books? We are going to never see the end of it.

Same thing with Snow Crash. It read like modern sci-fi... but had these antiquated elements like video tapes. So I looked up when it was written and was blown away.

Especially the google earth type application they use, that freaked me out.

I found the same true of my rereading of Asimov's Foundation trilogy+ recently and smoking being such an accepted habit in that society.

I wish that one of the zillion books that he is writing was the next book in the Mistborn series (The Alloy of Law sequel).

I know it's probably more horror than sci-fi / fantasy but I'm really enjoying NOS4A2 which is written by Stephen King's son and writing under the name Joe Hill. He writes VERY much like his father which I guess shouldn't surprise me.

Long Earth/Long War are really not that amazing for a Pratchett work. It's more of a "what if" thought exercise than an actual story.

Cliff notes for every Honorverse book:
Missile launch! Multiple missile launch!
Contemptuous ease.
Bucked and heaved in agony.
*Lengthy emo, soul searching mental soliloquy*
