Removing free trade will not decrease the price of shoes. Removing free trade WILL bring some of the jobs (general labor) or some high skilled jobs (robotics,engineering,etc...) to manufacture those shoes back to the US, because the companies can then COMPETE here in the US against those other nations.

Lets put it this way.
Before NAFTA
shoe costs 4.00 US on the shelf
shoe costs 3.00 to produce in the US
shoe costs 1.00 to produce in mexico
Getting shoe into the US cost the Mexico shoe company 2.00

Companies didn't have an incentive to use slave labor elsewhere to make more profit over US companies.


After NAFTA
shoe costs 4.00 US
shoe costs 3.00 to produce in the US
shoe costs 1.00 to produce in mexico
Getting shoe into the US cost the Mexico shoe company 0.00

Company has an incentive to move to Mexico because they can save 2.00 of production costs that they'd have paid in retrospect in tariffs.

NO-WHERE in "free trade" does the price ever decrease for the US consumer.

If you really think that a product will cost the same if you remove free trade, u need to go take economics 101.

free trade gives us more purchasing power for our $s (eg goods are cheaper) at the expense of competing for certain jobs globally (eg low skill mfg jobs).

It does need to be explained unfortunately. People don't seem to understand that the kind of idiots who end up on youtube at a Trump rally aren't exactly either side's best and brightest.

People more and more are confusing Democrats with the whole sjw, don't keep score in little league because someone will get upset. That's a whole younger generation thing that obviously also just happens to align on one side.

You're making a false assumption that competition doesn't exist.

That $2.00 saved allows a company to pass those savings onto the consumer thereby forcing companies to compete to drive down prices or go out of business.

Sure, if we lived in a world where there was only one company (a monopoly) we wouldn't see prices decrease, this is why we have regulations to review M&As.

Wtf are you talking about? Since 2006, the left has decidedly tilted far, far left and the democrats of old (think JFK: "ask not what your country can do for you...") would be considered republicans today.

Air Jordans are manufactured in China and cost Nike $16 dollars a pair. They sell for $100s of dollars. Shoes are a really bad example of free trade, tariffs, and capitalism.
