Have ya ever met a happy atheist?

I disagree with "so little evidence for a deity", and not just because I innately know that to be inaccurate. I think there is evidence everywhere of there being a deity. Or at the very least, of there being more to the universe and human existence than just what's at face value. (Which, at face value, has almost no value at all.)
What do you mean by "there is more to the universe and human existence than just what's at face value"? What's face value, and what is there in addition to it?

every person on this planet needs a point and purpose

otherwise they are just going at it aimlessly and devoid of humanity

because, yes, even religion and reason are human constructs

they spend their time waiting for shit like this to come out on NETFLIX

treat "MY LITTLE PONY" as the gospel inbetween fantasizing about touching kids

doing vagina monologues and every other thought being about their genitalia or gender

is the joke really on religious people anymore, given that criteria?

this understanding?

first you'll need to explain why you need a "why" in the first place.

hint: there isn't one and you don't require one.

In a universe full of weird shit they are looking for an explanation. The odds. Roll of the dice, luck of the draw. Just another form of energy transformed and when you die that energy will survive and transform once again

have you ever taken the time to read accounts of NDE? i get that the brain is capable of fooling itself, and we do have dreams, but that doesn't explain why so many people experience very similar things, like floating above oneself, outside of the body, seeing your body and the things happening around you, being able to describe things that were happening in the next room or places that you could never have seen or heard if you weren't actually outside of your body, the feeling of extreme peace and calmness that most people experience during this time, a lot of people describe feeling "love". I've had a lot of dreams in my lifetime, a lot of different ones, never experienced anything like those, so why would everyone experience the same thing, or very similar things, even if they never read or heard from anyone else that went through it?
For the same reason that people often dream about their teeth falling out. It could just be a quirk of how the brain works.

Now you may find that answer unsatisfying, but that's exactly why my very first question in this thread was "would you rather be happy or correct"? If you'd rather be happy, then there's no point carrying on the discussion, go forth and fill the universe with whatever imaginary stuff gives you the warm fuzzies (although you do so at your peril). If you'd rather be correct, then you owe it to yourself to accept the boring, unsatisfying answer when that's where the evidence points.

And on that note, it's worth mentioning that people with different religious beliefs all have near death experiences that are in line with their existing beliefs, and never one from a different religion.

please keep in mind that we have a self admitted "restrained pedophile" telling others what beliefs he finds cognitively acceptable and should become the norm

that he is the new normal in his own mind

and here I thought the Pope didn't have a leg to stand on before

is that why a lot of atheists just see blackness/emptiness/nothingness during an NDE?

At face value, the entire cosmos, in all of its complicated and intrinsic beauty, is just some accident without a purpose.

And life, isolated on just a "speck of dust suspended in a sunbeam", not only has no purpose, but all of its progression, from amoeba to creators of great works of art, engineering, architecture, etc, are just pointless in the end since it will all be burned to cinders by the sun someday anyway.

all dreams. you're incorporating outside environmental stimuli into the mind. afterall most dreams are just involuntary images/sensations in the mind during sleep stages.
why commonality?
well for starters we all have common dreams in the first place.
after that, youre again looking at similar pre-conditions ie experience of trauma, trauma itself, oxygen flow, dopamine levels. we can explain lights, sleep paralysis, all this shit with modern neuroscience. not to mention the power of suggestion; we've all heard of NDE so u wonder why your mind would go there if you're dying?
and last, people experience "NDE" when there's no risk of death at all.

Well, I certainly agree that there is more to human existence than that. I just don't think it has anything to do with any deities.

When you go to a party, you can have a good time even though you know the party will end at some point. When you have a great meal, you can enjoy it even though you know you will just end up pooping it out.

Just because things will eventually come to an end doesn't mean we can't give our own life meaning by enjoying it for as long as we can, or by pursuing whatever goals we set for ourselves.

And here I can only repeat what I told havax: you may prefer the idea of being a toy soldier in sky daddy's army, but if you genuinely value being correct over being happy, then you'll have to do better than wishful thinking.

no real point or purpose to anything in this life

so might as well just look at pre-teens on the internet and help them with masturbation techniques Amadeus says

All those planets out there are waiting for LDS members to be assign rule.. perk of paying 10% of your salary to man. They keep records and you miss a payment and you are out of the temple

The problem with the Bible is twofold -

One, it's a horrible and completely untrustworthy record of events that was originally handed down verbally from generation to generation, then written down, then edited, added to, redacted from, then politicized, and in the end convoluted to the point where who the hell knows what the real story is anymore.

Two, people tend to get waaaaaaaaaay too hung up on details. While some of the parables of the Bible are great, (just like any other good parable), much of the "story" really just distracts from the message, and the message I think is meaningful and valid.

I personally don't even bother with much of the Bible, (the old testament more than the new, anyway) because I don't even see how, at the end of the day, how it's really relevant to the overall message.

There should be like... three stories in the Bible-

Story One - The Garden

Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden, where everything was fine, there was no strife or difficulty for them. Cool place. Utopia.

The Creator doesn't want his creations to be robots, un-self-aware meatsacks blindly following orders without any free will or self-motivation, he wants them to be enlightened gods as well, just like himself. So he throws in the Tree of Knowledge, equipped with the entire catalog of what sins are available, complete with all the temptations of what choices can be had by God's creations.

To focus on their Free Will, the Creator tells his creations, "Hey fools, you can have every apple out here but the ones from that tree, dig?"

Adam, not too bright, says "Aight!", and goes with it.

Eve, the smarter one, says "I think.... I might... wanna eat dat...", and she does, convincing Adam to have a snack as well.

The Creator isn't angry with his creations, in fact he's very pleased, because his creations are now thinking for themselves. To further push his creations to think for themselves, the Creator tells them they must leave the Garden. They must be removed from a clearly-defined, safe, and predictable environment, and they must now go out into an environment that's the polar opposite of Eden - an unsafe and perilous place where their survival is dependent on their ability to think for themselves. The Creator instilled into his creations the instinct to value and protect and preserve their mortal bodies, but still let them retain the awareness that they're more than just self-animated fleshballs, they're really spirits in a physical frame.

Expelled and on their own, Adam and Eve take this knowledge and begin hacking out an existence for themselves in this mortal plane.

As time goes on, Adam and Eve's children do quite well for themselves, physically. Using the strength and motivation they attained from following the word of God, they master food, shelter, medicine, and eventually begin to not only dominate the earth, but even begin stepping out into the stars.

But along the way, the Creator's children forgot their Creator. In their zeal to master the physical world, his distracted children lost sight of what they were designed to be - beautiful, happy, kind, and creative creatures building their own Garden. This is due to the the Creator's opposite - the Adversary.

Story Two - The Adversary

The Adversary is one of the Creator's children, in fact he's his first creation. Beautiful and smart, the Adversary is a god himself, having traversed through the mortal plane and ascended to spiritual form. But the Adversary turned his back on the Creator, considering himself to be the Creator's equal. But in his hubris and jealousy, he's instead the Creator's opposite, the destroyer of things. Convinced that he's better than the Creator, jealous of the Creator's other children, the Adversary thrives on destroying not only the Creator's children but their creations as well. Threatened by these other creations, the Adversary attempts to prevent all of them from ever becoming beautiful, happy, kind, and creative spirits, working in every way to destroy them. Sometimes he works from outside, sometimes he works from within. He knows their weaknesses.

The Creator allows this to continue. As all of his creations must traverse through the physical plane, and once the hazards of the physical environment are overcome with knowledge, technology, and other mortal endeavors that smooth out the rough edges of physical existence, the purpose of the physical plane must remain - a proving ground for self-awareness and the capacity to exercise free will. As such, the challenges that his creations must face in this new Garden of Eden will be even more focused on self-awareness and free will, thanks to the efforts of the Adversary, who is constantly presenting challenges and obstacles to the Creator's children.

Story Three - The Christ

As the spirit and the body of his creations may often contradict or overshadow one another, and as the Adversary will work on beguiling and destroying the bodies and spirits of his creations, the Creator sent to earth a messenger, a beacon, a guidepost to all of his creations. The Christ, living the life of an ordinary man, facing the challenges of ordinary men, asking the questions of ordinary men, the Christ will do one thing different than ordinary men, he will not doubt. He will never waver in his devotion to the Creator, never doubt his trust in him, nor vary in the teachings of the Creator, where kindness, compassion, and love should be the basis for all actions. The Christ shall suffer in full view of everyone, with ample opportunities to choose the ways of the Adversary and revoke the Creator, to lie to save himself, or to hate those that betrayed him. Instead, he died in glorious fashion as he had lived - following the Creator. As such, the Christ's existence has meaning for all who came after him, as a source of strength, as an example of courage, and as a testament to kindness and compassion.

And like... that's it.

The end.

The rest of the stuff in there just kinda distracts from the message:
  • You are not just a meatsack
  • Remember your Creator
  • The world and its contents are not the point of your existence

50 point follow up question, two parts, why do people think the 25th of December is Christ's birthday and why are we encouraged to have trees in our house?

because unlike secret kenyan moslem barry hussein obama, jesus h christ (of nazareth) has a long form birth certificate written by the hand of god.

we are encouraged to keep trees in our houses because jesus was a carpenter and carpenters love wood
