Guitar neck shims.

I am simply putting out here an idea that will might allow you to work from home and make a few bucks. Granted, I can make one myself but I don't currently have what would be needed to get them to precise tolerances.

Couldn't you do these at a lower cost per unit and drop the prices? People would scoop them up and here is your competition.

I am building guitars dude... that is kinda like a hobby isn't it?

Hence the thread about needing cheaper Guitar neck shims. 100 bucks is a tad ludicrous unless there is something in the process I am unaware of. They seem pretty cheap to make if you already have what you need

Come one Jimmy. Do the math on the link you posted and the screen shot I posted from the same manufacture.

Let me break that down some more.... what is 100/12?

There***8217;s a set of 4 on there for $5. Which equates to $15 for 12. If you wanted a particular manufacturer you wouldn***8217;t be willing to have some TW hack make them.

That is for shimming a Floyd Rose locking nut

Not the neck.

Need full size also.

The whole point is a full size shim the keeps the neck in full contact with the pocket

Further more to have them made, you***8217;re gonna have to pay a setup fee, like $150 or something.

I simply made a thread showing a ridiculously overpriced needed product that I am sure someone else could turn out at a lower cost. I am not the only person who uses these.

You come in and just start talking out of your ass without knowing a damn thing

I watched a youtube documentary about that town in japan that was obliterated by the tsunami. There was a guitar maker who moved in that is making completely solid guitars using japanese woodworking techniques. This thread reminded me for some reason. Cool story.

You seem to have lots a cash to piss away, buy yourself some good woodworking tools, a CO2 marking/engraving Laser and go for it.

Make your neck & pocket right in the first place, or build neck-through

Shouldn't be so difficult though, certainly nothing to justify those sorts of prices. If you know how much you want to shift the angle of your neck, then get the distance between your bolts, grab a calculator, apply a little basic trig and work out how much you need to adjust your neck by - you shouldn't need to shim the entire pocket unless you really seriously screwed up. Grab a set of calipers and a fine hand plane or card scraper, and take a thou or two off your neck as required.

If you think about it though - those shims are timber. Timber moves. This is why guitars have adjustable truss rods. Those shims may have been relatively precise when they were made.. but they're not going to remain that way.
