The plan was always to move it to Thursday after episode 2.
Good ep. Love those aliens. Good world building.

Bingo. This show is essentially Fox's favored freshman series, so it's getting post-NFL promotion. Now that that's done, it moves to its real time slot, and we'll see how many people come along for the ride.

That too. And I love how the Union/humans are not top dog in this world's universe, or even on equal footing. Rather they're a smaller entity who is at a disadvantage.

I watched the first episode of Orville. I thought it was good for what it was. I didn't have expectations for it to be anything more than fun. I liked that they kept it light hearted, but without going full-on parody.
It has potential. It'll depend on where they go with it. I'm sure FOX executives will **** it up somehow by moving it around the schedule and pre-empting it for football until no one can find it to watch. Then wonder why no one is watching it. Then cancel it for poor ratings... just like every other Sci-Fi series they've done (Hello Space above and Beyond, Firefly).

the clever thing with orville is it's good enough that if there's slow moments or serious moments it's like you're watching yet another ****ty episode of some star trek show you don't really care about. but when it actually hits a good moment it really pays off

I also like the fact that they (Orville) aren't using the same technology as ST. Namely, Teleporters. Want to go somewhere, take a shuttle *****es. Makes for more interesting plotlines, as you can't just teleport people in and out of trouble. Last night's episode wouldn't have been possible without some hokey "the zoo is shielded, no teleporting is possible" gimmick.
I think they are striking the right balance between comedy and drama and providing some really good characters to explore further as the series goes on.

But they did use teleporting in this week's episode. It was a major plot device.

I'm not sure I'm fond of the visual design of the ship being a flying slipper...
The Krill are cool though.

True, but it was used against them by a more advanced race.

I am here. I am leaning towards liking it. Once the characters grow on me more I think it will grow on me.
I am enjoying the characters. They have a Data, a Worf, Cmdr Riker (with ****), Beverly Crusher, etc. The young security officer. Tasha maybe? I like how they are copying yet being silly about it. Apparently Klingons in this galaxy are sexless and **** eggs.

Not Tasha, definitely Kira Nerys. McFarlane said as much.

Ah so pulling from multiple shows. I did not know this. I have not read anything on this show. I just knew of its existence from this thread and happened to catch it opening night.

It's not bad, but then need to decide if its a comedy or a drama

I'd go with "very enjoyable." It was a heavy, dramatic episode that was perhaps a bit too heavy-handed at times. But I still enjoyed it. I've missed that kind of procedural, allegoric story telling.

I stand by my verdict. It tackled a current event with both humor and seriousness. It had really adult circumstances, and bathroom jokes. And ****ing Rudolph.
