ugh people like u miss the point of the wire

wire is specically written to be in grey area everyone is good and bad just like real life and there is no protagonist or antagonist because you feel a certain level of empathy for each character despite them all making major mistakes they are somewhat a factor of their environment

omar is a straight likeable guy is he really a good or bad guy despite all the evil things he does?

stringer bell same way?

but yet some of the cops on the show are more corrupt/evil than the bad guys themselves at times

Gus far and away best antagonist on tv

tony was killed right? that's how i understood it at least. when it goes black we're in tonys "pov" because the camera kept switching in and out of his pov throughout that scene.

there are various theories about it depending on how deep into your own navel you want to get, but the basic idea is that the 'audience' was killed, since it's the finale, ergo the audience/following of the show ceases to exist as a living thing, and without them the internal world of the sopranos ceases to exist as a second-order simulacrum (yes it's this stupid) [edit: and yeah, this extends to the idea that it was all in tony's head anyway]

There's also a wry comment about authorship and voyeurism coupled with variously-readable suggestions about the ontological relationship between the audience and the characters themselves; this way the audience doesn't get to bitch about something 'bad' happening to T and his family, because what the fuck ever, write your own ending (death of the author), but at this point you might as well just give up and say 'fuck you david chase'

edit: i sort of like it, though, because self-referential theorywank is sort of my job too

My assumption is they did it to build anticipation for the movie. I figured the movie would start with tony in jail and meadow running shit because AJ is a giant pussy.
