Most older demos are probably from 24834 since it was around for a long time. Try using Tribes2Old.exe. Just drop it in the Gamedata folder, create a shortcut to it and add -nologin to the end of the target. You can use this with the most updated version of the game.

I just tried it and it tells me I need the CD in to play. I haven't seen the CD for years so I guess I'm not going to be much help here.
Edit: I just went to gamecopyworld to see if there was a no-cd patch for that version, and they have all the incremental updates there.
