Also caught up on the episodes. We'll hear Bortis sing in a future show. Just like they resolved the Kelly cheating thing with the blue alien. I think it's a great show with wacky takes on life. Majority rule was a great episode. We kinda already have that with people getting fired for posting something dumb. Not to mention everyone has their phone out video taping.

I've said it before, I love the writing of this show. This last episode was fantastic. Plot holes? Who gives a ****. ****ing clowns.

Guys at work poo poo the show, saying it's just looks like a cheap cheesy rip off, and prefer ST: Discovery. Idiots.

Okay, so it's a holodeck episode, but not really a malfunction story since everything is going exactly how Alara set it up to be. Sort of a reset, except the character development Alara got over the course of the episode was still with her at the end, so it's all good. But yeah, a great episode, which even if it became a bit predictable in the second half, starting with psycho Dr. Finn, and made definite with Gordon being eaten by the giant spider, was still a blast.

What is making this show stand out over Star Trek is this show is more character oriented. Where Star Trek would have wasted time with the technobabble and explaining what is going on, this focuses on Alara and how she deals with the crisis at hand and what it means to her. Also, I like that this is apparently the first death of a crewmember on the show and even though he is just a random redshirt, his death is still relevant to the story and we see it actually means something to the crew they've lost one of their own, even among characters who never really knew the guy.

yeah, I heard the voice and was like...no way - that actor looks too young. Guess blue make up takes the years off!

Was it him in the pilot too?

I enjoyed every episode. The finale was entertaining but it felt a lot like several other star trek plots. Overall the season was excellent, and pretty clever.

I agree with all three of you.

I think the episode treated religion somewhat better than TNG did too. In this episode, we at least get an acknowledgment that religion played an important role in the culture's social evolution towards scientific enlightenment. And the people actually embrace their religious heritage and are not ashamed of it.

On the other side, the only portrayal of religion that we get is rather negative. We see a culture in a Dark Age where heretics are killed and a glimpse of a 21st century society with the stereotypical megachurch preacher. So the final message of this episode seems to be that religion is a wacky but intermediary step in a culture's development towards true scientific reason and progress.

Also: the game with Bortus and Kelly (wisely) ending it with Ed were really well done.
