definately not. i'm pretty sure they have a good reason for it, just like the previous developers thought it was good idea for a one hit kill weapon or make the game a wee bit slower, or have it centered around vehicles and just like T1 where the medium was supposed to be really useful but only was used for farming.

Okay, I haven't read the whole thread yet, but has anyone asked/noticed that he said you'd have to "hit your 4 key, or scroll through your weapons" to get to you "mine weapon"?

The point I'm curious about... is that I thought there was only 3 weapons, and normally WASD is default, with 1, 2, and 3 being your three weapons. So will the "mine weapon" be used like the targetting laser? Ya know... use it like an actual first-person weapon, but doesn't take up a weapon slot (like the TL)?

It's a stupid name. It's not a fighter, it's a pod. Fighters are sleek and swoop through the air like modern fighter jets. Pods float and are kinda dorky.

To me, it will always be the Pod.

Are you really trying to compare KP/Thrax to DaveG?

People with the flag should not be able to bounce off the wall.

Lack of repair kits and dangerous DJ's for lights = more flag passing = win

Quick question... is the OOB grid going to bounce EVERYONE off of it? Wouldn't it be better to not allow flag carriers to bounce off the OOBG?

*Edit* Equaknox is a dirty friend and stole my idea from our privy channel

It's not an ENTIRELY ludicrous assertion. Only time will tell whether their vision for the game will work out better than Dave G's.

Just because we know them better than Dave G doesn't mean they aren't capable of screwing something up.

I hope only those OOB grids are quite far from the "gaming area". The other innovations looks quite nice tho.

No but KP/Thrax have 8 years of combined experience with Tribes. How many did DaveG have?

I think that maybe why they are up in the air about rep kits, they first want to see what strats develop around the use of the automatic repair.
Seriously, can you imagine your average pub player say "I'm just going to be a sitting duck while I try to heal my teammates who are going to be dead 30 secs later anyway", when he can say "I'm just going to dress up in heavy and trash the enemy base"?

On the subject of two things:

-The "elastic" mission area - I think we need some clarification here from Crom about just what kind of elasticity we are talking about at the edge of the map. If one hits the OOB grid skiing at a good clip, will they be snapped off the "ropes" at a high speed like a slingshot effect, or does the invisible barrier simply "give" a little before gently pushing the player back into the map? Personally, I think a barrier along the latter lines would be far better balanced and a bit less ludicrous-looking.

-The omission of repair kits - While I can understand the logic behind omitting repair kits to keep people at inventories from constantly tossing rep kits to HoFs, I still think that repair kits in an altered form should be retained. I think a repair kit that can only be used by the person who carries it, and that does not exist in a material form to be tossed, would nerf such inv-spam techniques while still allowing the strategic use of rep kits for stuff like disc jumping and prolonged flag defense by light or medium defenders.

ugh. alright let me rephrase. was skiing supposed to happen? was the medium supposed to remain a farmer? is that what the devs imagined when they first made tribes? No. It happened. T1 armor could go the way of the DODO too. Never know.

I hope I'm not setting myself up to be disappointed, but everything I have heard so far about the game makes it sound fantastic. There hasn't been a single new change that has me worried at all.

I love the idea of the new light armor especially. I just checked out the new gameplay videos and the game looks very smooth and pretty.

Contrary to what most people have been saying about the simplification, I think it's a fantastic idea. I WANT people from quake and CS to play this game. We want the game to be huge. The more people that play it the better. I don't think any of the things that people are freaking out about (TL, Health Kit, etc) will impact the game negatively at all. In my opinion, all these new changes will make the game more fun for me.

And the best thing about the whole post, was that the Skiing felt similar to tribes 1 and wasn't soupy. That was my single biggest worry and it is cool to hear that I don't need to be concerned about that too much.

This post was great, thank you Crom.

Also, it means that if you cap in light, you better not dj.
- Thrax revealed that Rep Kits "might not be in the game". The way this was said to me, it sounded like it might have already been decided. Thrax said KP was still considering it, but to me it sounded like they were gone. they were not in the build i played either.
- Invisible, elastic OOB a la TR2 give you a heck of a boost
By doing these things, you are taking away from the "fun" and "skill" levels of the game. I'd even go as far as to say the game is ruined. Medium armor isn't for fudgeing capping. Its for farming. If a light is almost dead by one disc shot, the hell good will it be for? And no repair kits, what in sam hell? Jesus christ, so far I was extreamly happy with the way T:V was going and had a positive outlook on it. No longer do I have that view. You have ruined the game.

it isn't tribes 1.... its a new game, new stuff = new game

Im fine with all changes, however the no dj in light intrests me. Then again the Medium will be the permier armor in t:v it sounds like, which is fine for me considering it was not used in t1 or t2 except for some turreting. If Lights were alowed to do everything they can do now, then that would once again make mediums obsolete.

Everything is lookin good, bew bew bew.
