Best freeware programs?

PricelessWare - The Pricelessware List reflects the programs favored by members of the newsgroup alt.comp.freeware ; it is not an exhaustive list of the best available Freeware. Most of the listings are well-known programs, but there are some hard-to-find goodies to be discovered.

Nice link. :read: <--me (at that site, not the library)

Dave's quick search Put a search field on your tool bar, google is the default serch, but it's much more than that, you can search, websters dictionary, a thesaurus, refrence libraries, a calculator....., heck I use it just to launch my browser, I type in the URL, hit enter and you're there, it saves a step.

http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/

gibs (a.k.a. :google: )

WinVNC is now up to 3.3.6

AT&T labs stopped working on it a while ago.

http://www.realvnc.com (made up of guys from the old dev team)

Also these are prolbably the best tools I could find, or at least I like them the best, to use with VNC

http://vncon.chronetal.co.uk/ - VNCon

http://www.darkage.co.uk/ - Fastpush (for MANY flavors of VNC)

Be aware the only version of VNC that I am aware of that is not suceptible to this attack is Tridia Pro which is not freeware but substantially cheaper than PC Anywhere.

Don't forget TightVNC http://www.tightvnc.com

This version of the original focuses on compressing the data for slow connections...many of these features are in the new version from www.realvnc.com

We are developing a new deployment plan for the letest realvnc version here at my work, we use the R9 version as a standard.

Scanner -- Ever wondered where all that harddrive space goes? This incredible utility shows you how your HD usage breaks down, folder by folder and file by file...but the best part is the graphical representation. It's a multi-layered pie-graph...

...it's hard to describe, but since I found it a couple years ago I have loved this utility. DOWNLOAD IT. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.

I see some good ones here that I'm using, like the stuff from analogx.com . I use Cookiewall and Maxmem from him.

XnView is excellent for viewing images, but even better, it it quick and simple for converting many types of image formats, as well as doing some pretty good basic editing.

Password Corral has exactly the features I want in a password vault, but check out the beta preview of the new version with superior encryption options and improved interface.

Keynote is my most used text application. I like to keep close track of all kinds of notes and texts, and I've tried quite a few apps to do the job, and this one is the best for me. I won't try to mention all of the features, check the site and screenshots if you're interested.

Finally, there's Cdex which has been mentioned many times on these forums. Rip songs from CD, convert files, etc.

can someone help me with consolable? i am trying to set up custom commands and i cant get it to work. tell me where my syntax is wrong

Code:
[web]

cmd=!web
launch="C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE"

i figured it out. that program is AWESOME! i no longer have icons on my desktop. i just use consolable and have it always on top.

never used the program so i'm not sure if this'll work but ....instead of pointing it at winamp. just point it at the playlist..
