I've recently had 2 computer display these exact symptoms, in both cases it was the mb.

I also first suspected the power supply as well.

The one that belonged to me that did this is my "media" computer I have hooked up to the entertainment center, so I guess I'll be building me a new gaming computer and bumping this one down. Else a cheap mb replacement that allows me to use all the old components, which is likely the smarter move. It has a wolfsdale 3.16Ghz cpu so...

So apparently neither high end hard drives or power supplies come with cables to connect the two.
