yea, in a lot of these name your favorite multiplayer game, best fps game, etc, there always seems to be more support for the UT franchise than Quake. i was surprised actually. i always thought quake dwarfed ut in terms of admiration and playerbase, but that was just in competition it seems.
yes thats why UT had the better competition and players.

also cpma ctf is better than quake ictf. even ut[insert version] ictf is better than quake ictf LOL. from my hardcore ut playing friend, ut ictf actually had the most competition of any of the mods in ut, certainly bigger than quake ictf. i know it's still played today in drafts and such.
quake ictf is pretty much bottom of the barrel in terms of game modes. to compare it to tribes ctf is also

i think most ut players would say ut99 had best movement but i actually think ut3 is criminally underrated in a few regards. the maps seemed like shit but it had some good ideas with movement and weapon balance(although they fucked the whole feeling of dodging up).
anyway they recently added slide to the new ut4 movement and it pretty much made it the greatest ut system ever, though they just nerfed it in the last patch. the community seems to all agree that it was a bad idea and they need to revert that change. it makes getting around places much faster, almost as smooth as quake. and it doesn't effect the great combat of ut since it's pretty useless to use fighting close up; it's really only used to get around maps and that's the one area many people had a problem with ut for years.

True, i do like vehicles & big maps its way more interesting.

Stock ut3 movement is closer 2 ut99 than 2k4 is, however adding dodgejump mutator combined ut99 and 2k4 and elevated it above both.

it definitely wasn't as ut was present at many lans and had many more tournaments/ladders but okay.
one thing you can say though is that tribes was bigger in NA and ut was bigger in EU (as well as quake and cs and others)
i dont know or give a shit about the euros.
even tho its bullshit, as the best from the euros still played and specialized in quake.
