There could be some rather limited and small scale applications of this, though I can't think of any since it's usually done cheaper by just having a sign.
I just find it difficult to get a grasp on the profound stupidity on display, the wanton brain numbness, the blind and eager glee, the fanboism, the rambunctious interloping of the hope hunters. Go fuk off.

you're very pretty retarded
the cost of asphalt is tied to crude oil prices, and has been steadily rising for a decade. It will only continue to rise.
The cost of pothole repairs, repaving, snow plowing, ice and sand trucking, and other maintenance is on going and very expensive, $38 billion alone from federal funding. Individual states also have their own road funds as well.
Texas for example ranges between 2.7 billion in construction, and 334 million in maintenance, to 5.3 billion in construction and 462 million in maintenance over the last decade. They generally get 20% or less of their budget from federal funds. So, lets just say $100 billion a year in total for road funds in the US, though that'd probably low and it may well be double that.
Now factor in being able to sell usage on the fiber lines for data transmission, updated power grid infrastructure that needs to happen anyway and can be wrapped into the project, and the monies they collect from selling the energy to companies and cities and households and ****.
then also remember that you're a twat

The biggest thing we could do for transportation is to have healthy cities where people don't have to drive 1 hour each direction in order to avoid living in dangerous neighborhoods. Do you understand why mass transit is usually ****ty?
And modular road tiles that are easy to replace are probably easy to steal and raid for copper. Copper theft is a serious problem. Do you know what happens to abandoned houses in detroit? Stripped of every ounce of copper. Thieves in France have started raiding windmills. Europe***32;-***32;Metal***32;thieves***32;pillage***32;Fr ench***32;wind***32;turbines***32;-***32;France***32;24
But eh, Goshin says its perfect, so thats that.
P.S. Before you think otherwise, I am a big fan of solar. Unlike wind, it is predictable and can be generated locally which takes strain off the power grid. But putting it in suboptimal locations without any sun tracking under heavily trafficked glass which is going to get scratched up and dirty is not a great plan for economical power generation.
P.P.S. If modular roadways with heat generation and LEDs layered over fiber and other infrastructure are such a great idea, why aren't they being implemented on their own? Why are they only viable when combined with very half-assed solar generation that could deliver 3x as much power when used with tracking and put in a good location? Because its the next blind green hope that people are willing to dump money into.

Look bro, I don't have a dog in your solar road hunt.
You're just 2 for 2(I haven't read the rest of the thread) for packing posts with dumb ****.
All of the realistic logistical nightmares with something like this and your goto argument is that people are going to dig these ****ers up and ****ing smelt the ounce of copper out of the traces?
Awesome, man. You're awesome. Keep sticking it to them negros before they end up steeling all of our copper!

i thought one of their main points was that even with **** efficiency because of
- dirty roads and other road debris
- cars moving/stopped blocking sun
- less than ideal angles / tracking
they will still produce plenty of power

I honestly never considered theft, that would be a HUGE problem to that program (assuming it all works as they say/intend and there is actually something in place to implement it). All in all, I would start with parking lots where there is a lot of traffic just to power the nearby buildings, and see what happens from there.
Of course assuming it all works as they claim, apparently that is still up for debate.

that is only because they plan on covering most of the roads in the country with these tiles. Notice they don't have a cost estimate. Has he even released a ****ing bill of materials for this thing?
By all means Goshin, give him all your money before he even releases the cost estimate.

The best u can do is a cost estimate per tile.... You want a cost estimate to replace every road/parking lot in the states..? U serious bro?

they'll have that data ironed out by end of next month

Yes because clearly the solution is to master space-travel, find another habitable world, and pretty much **** it for resources like we did Earth, rinse, repeat.

It's not "stupid" it's an observable fact.
In a alternate universe perhaps but not this one. He was spot on with his comment.

The **** it is. Humans need to master themselves before tearing up all of everywhere.

You should go to China
****ers used to steal ours within a day of them being replaced. Usually we just had two or three big rocks plonked down on the road to warn where the big holes were.

Retarded? I am not the one promoting a "solar panels is road 2" idear that is about as smart as **** in a sock.
But yet, here you are pointing out another downside using asphalt - it's cost. Concerning cost, are you seriously waiting for the inventor to come out with his cost estimate? Do you believe it will be remotely accurate? As if he doesn't already have a good idea of this, yet, who the hell is going to believe cost estimates from a vested interest - from the prime beneficiary? Your naivete astounds.
Further, there's NO FUKN WAY they'll ever put data transmission lines in places that require a road to be torn up. L3 sure as hell wont' green light that.
and the amount of "smart like rock" posters agreeing with you, just reminds us about the state of science education in Merica.
Anyways, I think this is my fourth post, as it turns out - 4 too many, reminding me of the adage "you can't reason with a dreamer."
Good luck with your "solar panels is road" idear. Good bye
