I think those criticizing Trump right now don't know how to negotiate. Read any book on negotiations and you know negotiations start with the word "no." Really, every time "no's" are used, those are turning points, and positions of power.
If this is the last time both countries talk, then yes it will be a failure. I doubt that's the case. And even if there is no deal, all that really transpired is he tried to make peace, and we're in pretty much the same position we were before. Oh how horrible.
But Trump still has at least 2 more years.

How many legitimate "shows of good faith" has the US made with contentious states compared to covert and overt destabilizations? I don't know if Trump is doing the right thing, but I certainly wouldn't trust him or the US. Our foreign policy has very few successes and lots of failures. Looking to "gain" something is part of the problem, imo. Export motherfucking democracy by opening markets and making the world richer and making it much more difficult for people like Kim to stay in power.
