Let them build that fucking Mosque

I was referring to you calling it a "victory" mosque.
This is their argument:

Such double-standards lead us back to the issue of double-meanings: As for the literal wording of the mosque project, “Cordoba House,” it too offers opposing paradigms of thought: to Westerners, the English word “house” suggests shelter, intimacy-coziness, even; in classical Arabic, however, the word for house, dar, can also mean “region,” and is regularly used in a divisive sense, as in Dar al-Harb, i.e., “infidel region of war.” Thus, to Muslim ears, while “Cordoba” offers allusions of conquest and domination, dar is further suggestive of division and separation (from infidels, a la the doctrine of al-Wala’ wa al-Bara’, for instance).

Ground Zero Mosque: Hidden Meaning for America, But Not Islam | The National Scene

We go on political crusades throughout the Middle East and its surrounding regions in the guise of "spreading democracy." The pronounced beneficiaries of our little adventures are Muslim Arabs. But yet, when Muslim Americans seek to build what amounts to the Muslim equivalent of a YMCA, we treat them like they're terrorists. In other words, Muslim Arabs are worthy of our sympathy, money, and soldiers, but Muslim Americans ... well, they represent terrorism.

That's a pretty gross inconsistency.

dump why there? they can build it anywhere else no problem. but why there?

well first of all, its not a mosque
second of all, they should name it "freedom tower" just to troll idiots some more :D

the area around the WTC that was effected by the buildings falling and pieces of the plane.

PS: There is already a Mosque near there

This is a 'victory' Mosque.

and they won, so they should get to build the mosque

america should be all for this, since america loves a winner

It would be 2 blocks away from ground zero, not on it. And there's already one 4 blocks away, that's been there since before 9/11. Mosques in New York is not a big deal, I really don't understand what the problem with it is.

Now Irish, on the other hand...Fuck them.

Yes, there's already one 4 blocks away, owned by the same guy I think. So they need to build it somewhere else, but they don't want to because it wouldn't be a victory Mosque.

It is technically a mosque (masjid). It's somewhat incorrect to think of a mosque as a "Muslim church." The term for that would be masijid jami, which is a specific type of mosque. In Islam, a mosque can be as insignificant as a partitioned space in a guy's living room or den or whatever, or as extravagant as a dedicated multistory decorated building. This community center would definitely be a mosque, but it's not going to be where they meet on Friday for worship and whatnot.

In other words, it will be a place where nearby Muslims can come in and handle their daily prayers (thus making it a "mosque"), but it's not going to be the meeting place for Friday congregation.

American Muslims were victimized on 9/11 just as much as American non-Muslims. If anything, American Muslims have been victimized even more in its wake, having now to deal with all of the bigoted Neanderthals on the social right.

Those poor Muslims following a religion that explicitly states that they must deceive all non-Muslims by pretending you're one of them, convert them to Islam or kill them if they won't convert, and establish Sharia Law.

Aww, I feel so bad for them. Kinda like how bad I feel for Scientologists when they get ridiculed, scammed by their own, and/or die because of their religion's rules.

im not agreeing with validuz in any way

he's a fucking idiot

with that said ... terrorists attack the US in the name of Islam ... destroy a few buildings, and in the wake a building is built ... in the name of Islam. isn't that kinda sending the wrong message to them ...? saying that they can blow up all the shit they want and we will just let them build monuments to their insane religion which is part of their goal in the first place.

not to mention the funding on this project is murky... who the fuck is stumping up the $100M for the project ... some of that money is allegedly coming from anti-western orgs..

Those terrorists would probably execute the Muslim supporters of this mosque if they had the chance.

If we use the force of government to deny them the right to purchase property and practice their religion on it, simply because it is proximal to Ground Zero, then we are conveying that we hold Islam, not al-Qaeda, accountable for 9/11. That sort of religious-based alienation is rather antithetic to one of the key principles on which this nation was founded: freedom of expression, religion, speech, etcetera.
