I liked that slippery slope better when it was people freaking out that the Irish would force us all to worship the Pope and say "faith and begorra"!

American Muslims were victimized on 9/11 just as much as American non-Muslims. If anything, American Muslims have been victimized even more in its wake, having now to deal with all of the bigoted Neanderthals on the social right.

And this.

We go on political crusades throughout the Middle East and its surrounding regions in the guise of "spreading democracy." The pronounced beneficiaries of our little adventures are Muslim Arabs. But yet, when Muslim Americans seek to build what amounts to the Muslim equivalent of a YMCA, we treat them like they're terrorists. In other words, Muslim Arabs are worthy of our sympathy, money, and soldiers, but Muslim Americans ... well, they represent terrorism.

That's a pretty gross inconsistency.

Or you could stop calling it ground zero since that smacks of war talk, and start realising that it's just a part of the city that needs rebuilding.

Burlington Coat Factory - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In 2001, in the 9/11 attacks after hijacked Flight 175 penetrated through a tower of The World Trade Center, part of the plane's landing gear and fuselage came out the north side of the tower and crashed through the roof and two of the floors of the Burlington Coat Factory at 45–47 Park Place, between West Broadway and Church Street, (600 feet (180 meters)) north of the former World Trade Center. The plane parts destroyed three floor beams, and severely compromised the building's internal structure. Nine years later the building was part of a national controversy, as efforts to build a Muslim center and mosque at the site as the "Cordoba House" sparked a national controversy.[6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14]

Okay TW Republicans, you've now been given a green light to go ahead and concede that there's nothing wrong with building the Muslim community center.

Christie said he agrees that some degree of "deference" must be paid to victims' relatives, but added, "But it would be wrong to so overreact to that, that we paint Islam with a brush of radical Muslim extremists that just want to kill Americans because we are Americans. But beyond that ... I am not going to get into it, because I would be guilty of candidly what I think some Republicans are guilty of, and the president is now, the president is guilty of, of playing politics with this issue, and I simply am not going to do it."
