America: The no-vacation nation.

I got two months of summer vacation, one week in autumn, two weeks during Christmas, one week in the winter plus assorted national holidays. I wouldn't really trade places with you guys even though you earn quite a bit more than I do.

America is fine, but you have to TAKE the vacation. Your boss is never going to suggest you do it. It's a self-directed system...we take little vacation, so little vacation must be what we prefer (or what our corporate overlords prefer for us).

I personally don't suffer from that affliction, I take my days off with no shame.

nah man I am not kidding. just looked it up.
teacher vacations start at summer 4th of june. and they go back to school first of august.
that is almost 2 months. then they have "syysloma" which is 5 days on the fall, then like 2 weeks for xmas and 5 more days for "hiihtoloma" so it totals to 3 months of vacation in a year.
+of course the national holy days on the week.

sucks to be american :D

american teachers have more time than that off. generally about the same as you've said but with 3 months in the summer.

should be less. school year should be longer.

4 Floating holidays, 4 sick days, accumalated vacation that goes up to two weeks by the end of the year (its my first year here), increasing one week per year and capping at five weeks.

I don't think it's all bad here

Teachers have to meet no standards. They have to come up with no new material for their work. They leech from the government.

Here in Denmark we got a 37 hour work week.. I got 5 weeks paid vacation plus 5 extra days if something urgent comes up - or we just feel like using them as regular vacation (if you got a child - you have to use these days when the child gets sick, for instance - called care days). Each day not used is transfered to the next year.

Besides that, working overtime does not net extra income for me. I get up to double the overtime as "time off" that can be used as I see fit (as soon as its cleared with the boss ofcourse).

So right now I got over 200 hours of "time off" to take whenever I want and 6 effective weeks of vacation. I've been asked if I want the 200+ hours in cash, but I prefere the freedom to take a cople of weeks off whenever I want to. For example, last year I had a 4 week summer vacation.

No stress here :)

I get 20 days per year. Summer weeks only count as 4 days so I get up to 5 weeks vacation each year.

I am only alllowed to use a full week once and only during the summer. Anything more than 2 days in a row is frowned upon by my boss. He says it looks bad.

Luckily, he retires in a couple of years.

I get forced vacation twice a year for about ten days each. But any days aside from those aren't paid and complained about.

The vajin gets over a month paid off to use at her discretion plus an assload of sick/personal days.

i work IT for a school district and get off 2 weeks for christmas and 1 for spring break. plus we get gov't holidays, snow days, etc. and none of that affects my 3 weeks of vacation/personal time off (which will be 4 weeks later this year). i work 5-6 hr days and even less in the summer. i am salary. and my commute to work is about 3.5 miles.

i dont want to go back to corporate america :-(

oh, and we get 180 sick days per year
