I think i'm going to invest in AMD this year.

Ryzen is looking pretty good. Their GPU is doing pretty good. Their drivers are still shit. They're still holding a fairly large share of the console market.

IDK man, I think this may be the year they reach $20/share.

You would think that would boost their value but it doesn't, the traditional PC is pretty flat sales wise along with tablets and laptops.

I wouldn't be surprised if the console market crashes, nothing like the Atari crash but more of a console recession.

didnt this exact same thing come up during the phantom or fx chips or whatever

this is the year they recapture the magic of that 1ghz athlon
the benchmarks are great
the prices are great
time for release aaaaaaaaaaaand its a massive piece of shit

ya no thanks, im happy to allow them to stay in business to keep intel from being hit with antitrust but youd have to pay me significant amounts of money use to amd anything r now

tho tbf i really hope their new chip actually is good bc then intel will sigh and begrudgingly release a new line of chips based off whatever technology they already had from 10 years ago that theyve just been sitting on due to lack of competition

Yeah, I've never had a genuinely good experience with AMD in terms of performance - they're okay for cheap gaming rigs, but when it comes to any real computational horsepower they're severely behind Intel in terms of strong performance.

The FX lineup was so fucking bad, like shockingly bad. Intel's chips are just straight up better, and their lineup of available CPUs will put most AMD chips to shame in terms of actual performance, plus they've got a wide enough range that you can either get a good chip at a good price and overclock it if you want to squeeze a little more out of it.

I was invested in AMD for a long time, thought it was way too cheap for the holdings they have--independent of the actual success of their products.

Finally decided to restructure my holdings (into index funds), and AMD hadn't gone anywhere, so i got out. That was below $2. It is $11 now.

edit: but in terms of HW, I won't use AMD CPUs, ever. Their servers are especially shit. I am trying to rid our office of their servers.

They are going to see some increase in the short term, then Intel is going to come out with the nanobot/molecular system bus and that will be the end of AMD.
