Facebook down, millennials committing suicide at Facebook headquarters

"We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing the Facebook app," said a Facebook spokesperson, adding "we’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible”.

Those affected have taken to Twitter to complain of the issue, with some noting that the problem is impacting the home page and News Feed on the Android version of the app.

The website Down Detector, which tracks global outages, revealed that Facebook has been having troubles since just before noon UK time.

And its world map shows major problem hotspots in the UK and parts of Europe.

There's been a spike in Facebook down reports in the past hour, according to Down Detector, with over 250 noted blackouts.

"When @facebook updates the app and tells you it's working fine .. but it keeps closing down and asks you to try again .. and again .. and again .. please sort it out .. #Facebook phone app is not working!" tweeted a disgruntled user.

"@facebook Facebook keeps shutting down saying Facebook has stopping then close the app or send feedback ..?" said another.
