I adopted a dog and am about to run out of these pills. Are these required medicines for dogs that I should continue to give him? They prevent heartworm, but what prevents stuff like roundworms or tapeworms?

I think it depends on the region you live in and such. I don't give my dog regular medicine other than some FIsh oil things that help her coat (they really do). Other than that only medicine she's been on is when she was sick.

I don't right now since my state is not native to them (according to my vet) and its winter so we arnt really going out. I will probably start once summer rolls around.

Yes, we do. Which reminds me I missed this month and we're out. Have to get new. Thanks. We're in TX though and it is something that the vet highly recommends here. Back when I lived in WA, they said it wasn't required.

Yea we give both our dogs heartworm pills at the recommended dosage. It might be hype but better safe than sorry IMO. Heartworms can kill.

For a newly adopted dog you should put him on a course of heartworm meds for at least a few months. There are different types available that range fro 3 to 6 months I think. A vet could make a good recommendation.

As for worms i'd simply have his **** checked. Doesn't cost much like 30 to 40 bucks and if he doesn't have them he's not likely to get them now that he's being cared for.

I recently adopted as well and mine had round worms and whip worms. Rounds were easy to get rid of, 1 pill and a few weeks. the Whip worms are going to take 6 months of medication....Still not too expensive though 90 bucks I think we paid.

yes, I give them revolution which is just the liquid you put on their backs. Kills all fleas/worms etc. It should be ok to miss up to 3 months but it works best to do it at the same time every month.

yeah he just had a poop that looked like a noodle but I broke it up and it didn't seem to be a worm, I was just wondering if I should take him to the vet to be safe. He has no exposure to other dogs and isn't out much.

Yeah, I'm in WA and that's basically what I was told as well.

A checkup won't cost you much and with an adopted dog why not play it safe?

Not allowing him to eat other animals **** will prevent a good deal of things.
Yes I give my animals heartworm pills, it's pretty much the only thing I don give them other than normal shots (rabies, etc).

Wellness food and Casey Pet supplements are the only other things I buy for my dog/cat

WELLNESSŪ - Healthy Dog and Cat Food
Dog Supplements

The food is more pricey than other foods, but they eat less of it and it lasts longer, plus it doesn't have a lot of the filler crap other foods have that make your dog hyper like a child off their ADD meds.
