Amp Help

Forewarning: I know nothing about electronics.

I have a Peavey Pro 500 bass head. Tube pre, solid state power.

Sometimes when I power it on, there is either VERY little volume or none. Sometimes I'll play and it will cut out to the same volume. When I hit the switch to turn it off, it goes to the normal volume for a split second then turns off. Usually when I turn it back on again, it works fine.

Repeat.

Any ideas?

I'm not TOO concerned because I'm going to be buying a new amp anyways. But it'd be nice to figure this out so I can at least sell it.

Sounds like you might need to replace the preamp tubes. If it's anything beyond that, it may not be worth fixing, especially since you'd have to get someone to fix it for you.

Sounds like a transformer to me, which is sort of expensive to repair. If it's really not working, I'll buy it off you as scrap.
