Yeah, garage door openers can tell you the status of your garage door. I think they're doing the same thing for door locks (wireless). Something like this may work.

Co-worker drove to work, then home wondering if he left his garage door open. Then he bought an add on for his GDO, he got it working.

Here's a review for a GDO that has all the wireless stuff built in.

Got the camera working, can see it on my phone. It doesn't have motion detection zones, they're working on that for the future. It has motion tagging to see what the camera detected as moving. That means if I point it at the street, it will pick up all the cars passing by and send me an alert each time. That's not good, but what I plan on doing is pointing it at my driveway or the front door outside. Then I won't get spammed with alerts. It does record everything to an SD card on the camera and sends all the alert videos to the cloud, 14 days for free.

Version 2 of the camera has a better Cmos sensor and sound chip. For $20 I think it's cool.
