Armored Core's probably the closest you're gonna get (assuming Bandai doesn't fuck up the new Gundam game whose name escapes me at the moment)...the controls are a bitch to start on, but after a week or two of practice they become second nature.

i think i played the first one released on ps2 (2?) i enjoyed it quite a bit...but virtual on was one of the most underrated games ever..great 1 on 1 combat
