Interest on loans has killed many a civilization. Look through history and some have tried to do away with it completely, and it came back as small interest, then back to normal.
Getting back to technology, self flying planes. They already have auto pilot for the cruise section of flight, but we're talking about take offs. Of coarse the humans will be in the cockpit, just like they are with self driving trucks. But eventually they won't be needed.

I bet autonomous airplanes would be more easy than cars.
The standards would be super high though to take over from humans. Air travel has a very low mortality rate, so the AI would have to "beat" that before it's common place.
In the military AI is already beating top pilots in sims. The pilots say it's as if the AI anticipates every action they take, as if they can see the future. Most likely the way it will be used in war is there will be a human in a jet, but he will have swarm of AI drones flying around him.
