Elon Musk tweeted "Nuke Mars" on Thursday.
Musk has championed the idea of launching nuclear weapons just over Mars' poles since 2015. He believes it will help warm the planet and make it more hospitable for human life.
The idea is to release the CO2 trapped inside Mars' ice caps, producing a greenhouse effect.
A study done in 2018 concluded that using Mars' CO2 to replicate the Earth's atmosphere would be impossible with today's technology.

Does this mean we're going to get locked into a long term nation building with Mars? Do we have to take in Martian Refugees?
 
apparently this dipshit doesn't realize that the humans r all on earth, and that is where nukes must be deployed
 
None of that matters unless you can restart the Martian core. Any attempt at terraforming will be stripped away immediately by the solar wind because Mars has no magnetic field. Radiation will murder a Mars colony if they don't address it properly in the habitat design.

This is probably the last "big" hurdle to space travel and intra-solar colonization. It may be possible to generate an artificial magnetic field around Mars, or at least in the direction of the solar wind. But we've never attempted an engineering project on that scale before, let alone on another planet.

Elon is :king: but this idea is stupid.
