I thought serving in the legion was a no no as far as the US gov was concerned...leads to citizenship issues. How did you get around that?

I served with a few Americans and stay in close touch with 2. They have never said anything about citizenship problems.

I got my US citizenship through service in 1970. I even had a Colonel come to our AO and swear me in.

I'd put it on everything if I could...sometimes I take a pull straight from the bottle. Pancakes, waffles, french toast...

I wasn't able to get in on training in Poland but served with 1 memorable Poll...His last name was Prezniak. A ****ing mountain of a man...seriously his ****ing hands were enormous. We went to draw winter gear once and the supply clerk takes 1 look at his paws and goes to the back and brings out 2 huge oven mitts...He goes to put them on and he says they're too tight...

Another time he steps in to bust up a dust up between a couple of fellows in the barracks...comes up behind them and wraps his hands around each guys neck and picks them both of the ground and casually walks the outside...2 180 pound dudes like they weren't even there. When they came back in they were friends again.

I've had positive experiences with Poles, whether first or 2nd generation American. One of the guards for my DoJ office was a pole who emigrated during the height of the solidarity movement in the 80s and was a beast even though he was 50. Drank with GROM guys as they were doing mountain medical training and yep confirmed badass. There is a reason during the Iraq occupation the poles got a sector in addition to the UK and American sectors.

They are the allies we need to keep not many other NATO members. Thick and thin they there. Polish history also mad interesting and explains why they are the way they are.

but few remember the other millions

Poland can still connect the dots of History

remember what happened when an even worse monster took over their lands

know who and what is worth fighting for

I agree on the Polish. I grew up in Northern Illinois and it is only good hearted poking of fun that I administer. Because of the ROEs over in Afghaniland, my nephew and his pals couldn't do something as simple as opening fire on a guy they just watched drop an RPG on the ground. So, they had radios. They would call their friends the Pols and like magic - kaboom. Pretty ****ed for us - yes we need more friends like them in the world.
