Former Boston Red Sox star Hanley Ramirez under investigation for drug probe: report

...

“There has been some reports about a FaceTime phone call that was made between a man during a car stop. After that car stop, police recovered a significant amount of drugs. And during that car stop, the suspect claimed that one of the items found in the vehicle belonged to Hanley Ramirez and then FaceTimed [Ramirez] in front of police. And that car stop coordinated with the timing of his release from the Red Sox,” McPhee said, according to the Boston Herald.

...

do u think this is the reason why he was designated for assignment?

Kevin Gregg, a spokesperson for the Red Sox, said the team was “unaware of any investigations involving Hanley.”

“Hanley was designated for assignment for baseball reasons,” Gregg said. “We were and are unaware of any investigations involving Hanley.”

oh, i guess that settles it

Haven't posted in this thread since May 27th and dumbass KittyCat is still butt hurt. It helps that Mookie missed 20 games. All those empty stats for a team that is 10 games out of the Wild Card race and effectively eliminated from the playoffs.:rofl::rofl:

Also, that Hanley "news" was completely bunk from the awful Boston Globe.

I get being excited about Betts - especially when he's on the team you follow.

But Mike Trout is generationally good. The stats speak for themselves, and I have a hard time knocking him for the Angels' record.

Mike Trout is 26 years old. This important announcement is brought to you by the Useless Information Department’s Time Marches On Division – because it has noticed that rest of us seem to act as if Trout has been around forever.

Trout has passed Harmon Killebrew, Mike Piazza and Vladimir Guerrero in career Wins Above Replacement this month – and he’s 26 years old. He has already had more top-two MVP finishes (four) than Hank Aaron, Mike Schmidt or Ken Griffey Jr. – and he’s 26 years old.

happy bobby bonilla day

Happy Bobby Bonilla Day!

Like every player on the New York Mets, Bobby Bonilla receives a large paycheck every July for their services on the diamond. Only difference here? Bobby Bonilla doesn't play for the Mets and hasn't given them his services in decades.

Every July 1, the Mets pay a 55-year-old retired player of theirs a whopping $1,193,248 due to the more infamously, arguably greatest sports contract ever negotiated.

The deal originated from the Mets owing Bonilla $5.9 million for the 2000 season, but instead of paying the slugger that money, the team negotiated with his agent to pay him later, attaching an 8 percent annual interest rate to deferred money. The first payout of the money came on July 1, 2011, and the Mets have been paying the same amount every July 1 since, and will until the year 2035, meaning that original $5.9 million turned into $29.8 million for Bonilla.

Bonilla retired at the end of the 2001 season.

55-Year-Old Bobby Bonilla Will Receive His Annual Payment Of $1,193,248 From The Mets Today

I never argued that he wasn't. He's a great player and the best in baseball. However, at the time when Mookie was healthy, he was neck and neck with Trout and arguably better in multiple more categories (for this current season). Since then he has missed 20 games so Trout has surpassed some of those stats.

The main argument stemmed from the fact that Kotz uses only WAR to discuss players performances when he doesn't watch any games. WAR is not an official stat so it's more of a talking point/water cooler talk kind of thing, imo. Having a career WAR higher than other players doesn't do much for me when you do not win games.

Trout needs to get into the playoffs and show his game on a bigger stage to elevate his status even higher at this point in his career. He needs a ring to cap his already stellar career off and he's still only 26 so it's going to be even more ridiculous when we look back on his career as he retires in a decade or a dozen years.

David Price is hilarious right now. I can't even be mad at this. Red Sox/Yankees seems to be a series that will go from blowout to blowout though.

it's funny b/c i traded ottavino for sonny gray (i wanted jon and sonny for a gray skies 1-2 in my rotation) in The Show 2016 and he's a fking video game powerhouse

he's 13-2 in early august for my video rockies right now
