According to a statement from Shohei Ohtani's representatives, RHP/OF Shohei Ohtani will sign with the Angels.
Ohtani picks the Angels after a whirlwind week where he narrows his choice down to seven clubs, and Los Angeles ends up with the winning ticket. The Halos will hand over a $20 million dollar posting fee for the rights to negotiate his contract, and they'll be able to pay him upwards of $2.5 million dollars after making a deal to acquire cash from the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. The 23-year-old pitcher/outfielder is baseball's first legitimate two-way prospect in some time, and he'll get a chance to play in the outfield, DH, and start for the Angels in 2018.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports the Yankees are in play for a potential Giancarlo Stanton trade with the Marlins.
Stanton recently vetoed potential deals with the Giants and Cardinals and said he would only be willing to accept a trade to the Dodgers, Yankees, Astros and Cubs. That action may have lowered his trade value enough to encourage the Yankees to make a renewed push for the freshly-minted National League MVP. With the Yankees rumored to be more cost-conscious than in prior years, the Marlins may be forced to swallow a larger chunk of the $295 million remaining on Stanton's contract to make a deal work.

astros don't want to spend that, right?
if the yankees do land stanton, that's one major player possibly out on future machado/harper sweepstakes

Harper is going to the cubs book it he's friends with Kris Bryant he's already been teasing about it
Cubs don't want Stanton it doesn't fit Theo mo either to trade for a slugger like that coming off a hot year

as a non-Yankees fan I'm even rooting for him to go land there at this point [plus it keeps the Red Sox in line]
agreed they'd be out on Harper/Machado but I could still see them in on someone like Donaldson

they'll still have competition from the Giants and Cards and Dodgers (Puig a FA then) as well as the Nats
and who knows how Atl/Phi shape up by then, lots of possibilities J
on the flip side you'll still have a 20m+ outfielder in Heyward!
