What is it? From what I can tell, if you sign up to thug for the MIC - and make no mistake, that's what you're doing, as the US military has not "defended the Constitution 1" ever during its existence - here's what you factually get as benefits. Note that I haven't "served" in the US MIC, so anyone who has can fix any errors my research has come up with:
- Salaried pay based on rank + years "served"
The base starting pay for an Army E1 is 19k, which is above the Federal minimum wage by around 5k. It is almost 10 bucks an hour and remember, the goon has the following insane benefits to go with it:
- Full medical and dental
- Additional allowances & bonuses
- Free housing
The average American at a similar earnings level spends about 6k a year on housing. For our goon, communism prevails.
- Free food at base (mess hall)
- Food allowance
- MREs
- No sales tax at commissary
This is also just plain communism. At least the MIC calls it an "exchange", commissary would be too obvious I guess.
- 30 days off per year, which is above the standard in the US
In the private sector, you have to work at the same company for 20 ****ing years to get the same amount of vacation a fresh ****face goon gets right off the bat.
- Signing bonus*
*Special rules and conditions apply
- College Loan Repayment Program
That's right, the US taxpayer will foot the bill for your College education after you get out!
- Many others I'm not sure about
There's also a plethora of after-service benefits available to the retired MIC enforcer. All in all, I cannot for the life of me see what the "sacrifice" here is. Theoretically you can get your arms and legs blown off or your cranium burst open by a 7.62x39, but you signed up for that ****. That hazard is also significantly lower now that the last giant US warcrime in Iraq and Afghanistan has calmed down. I gotta give it to Trump, I too don't understand why US MIC thugs are worshipped when they do nothing for their community or country and know that there's a microscopic chance they will die in service. Ain't no mother ****er thanking loggers or steel workers for their service.

so...mandatory military service kills a couple birds with one stone
free stuff for a few years so you start life off on a good foundation
free college for everyone
whips kids into shape to start their mid 20s right
gets rid of the everyone wins mentality from helicopter parents?
sounds good

Their sacrifice is living a life with no constitutional protections. And much of that list only pertains to single employees in the military. I believe that married couples serving have to pay out of pocket for a lot of the **** above, like food and housing.

yea but when you go deploy your spouse gets lots of $$$$$$$$$
hence shot gun weddings before a deployment and tons of divorces when they get back

I guess the military is like socialism and communism. They do get paid and get some benefits, but the downside is you ****ing do what youre told to do, no freedom to do otherwise. So yep.

A poor uneducated loser? A middleclass buffoon who plays video games all day?
Some people can and do take the reigns.. most don't. I think it is a fair trade.
Putting our soldiers in harms way in the middle east wasn't a genius plan but we still need a way to kick some people in the ass and frankly, some people want to be kicked in the ass and enjoy the lifestyle.

my recruiter was smart enough to NOT list MRE's and Barracks life as a sign up perk. the 30 days leave is given a caveat that you gotta use it on the weekends and the whole spending months* in the field in any given year
also i thought the whole purpose of nationalist socialism was a giant MIC to keep the economy and national identity focused.
*job and duty assignment dependent

I know, right?
Listing MREs as a benefit cancels out the rest of the troll.
[Yes, I served.]

You've been misinformed, a central issue of the NSDAP was destroying the "war profiteers" i.e. the MIC. The German economy recovered under NS leadership before the increased military spending, contrary to the popular claim.
