[MLB] 2016-2017 Off-Season

Spoiler

Jeff Bagwell, Tim Raines and Ivan Rodriguez were elected to the 2017 class of the Baseball Hall of Fame by the BBWAA.

Bagwell and Raines both just missed out on making the Hall of Fame last season. Better times in 2017, particularly for Raines (who would not have been eligible next year). He joins the hall having hit .294/.385/.425 with 170 homers, 980 RBI and 808 steals across 23 major league seasons. He amassed six seasons of at least 70 steals. For his part, Bagwell played his entire career with the Astros and slugged 449 home runs while driving in 1,529 runs across 15 campaigns in the bigs. He was a career .297/.408/.540 hitter. Pudge Rodriguez is something of a surprise entrant, here, joining Johnny Bench as the only catcher to be inducted on the first ballot. The longtime Rangers backstop finished out his time in the majors holding a career batting line of .296/.334/.464 to go along with 311 homers and 1,332 RBI. Just missing the cut were Trevor Hoffman (74%) and Vladimir Guerrero (71.7%).

yeah don't go to the DR but if you do stay off the roads

But from anecdotal evidence and all the available data, driving in the Dominican is a world unto itself. According to the World Health Organization's Global Status Report on Road Safety, 29 of every 100,000 people in the Dominican died in road accidents in 2015. That made the Dominican the most dangerous place to drive in the Western Hemisphere and established the Caribbean nation as 15th worst in the world. The majority of the road fatalities -- about 63 percent -- involved motorcycles.

in a country smaller than west virginia

I get wanting to go home and see family and friends, but you have a shit ton of money, fly them up to the US and avoid the hazards of your home country.

Went to Punta Cana in DR for our honeymoon at the end of 2014. Awesome place to visit but it is not shocking in the least to see these fatalities. Absolutely insane drivers there. On multiple occasions we saw families of four on a moped going 50+. Not only that, one family had sticks hanging off the back going into adjacent lanes....

Gee, you force taxpayers to pay for your stadium, then you immediately slash payroll and put out a shitty product, and the fans stop coming? What a jack off.

Loria might be the scummiest sports owner, and that isn't a demographic filled with great people.

*edit* Apparently buyer is Charles Kushner, who hired a prostitute to break up his sisters marriage since his brother in law was cooperating with the feds against him. Somehow Loria found someone that might be a even shittier person.

All the news about bad owners, it's too bad the sports lost one of the few good ones. RIP Mr. I. Ilitch owned the Tigers and Red Wings, and was one of the few to stay with Detroit when everyone else wanted out.
