oh yeah, i don't have a clue anymore what goes through some voters' minds when they choose this ****.

bartolo looks like an alien who tried on a human skin for a specific mission, but loved it so much it decided to keep it and live in it forever.

Those 5/7 votes are dumb but not a terrible breakdown otherwise for Trout given how bad the Angels were. Baby steps BBWAA.

If you believe in sabremetrics and the eye test, Trout is easily the best. If you're an old timer who thinks winning is everything you're doucher and vote him 7th. I guess if you value winning more than everything it makes sense, but you're still a ****nugget and out of touch with reality.

Bryant Trout had highest war in MLB so makes sense they finally got it right!

I know WAR isn't the end all but it's hell of a lot better than idiots guessing based on other bull****.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Yoenis Cespedes is headed back to the Mets.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports hears that it's a four-year deal worth $110 million, pending a physical. Andy Martino of SNY reports that the deal includes a full no-trade clause. Per Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, Cespedes will make $22.5 million in 2017, $29 million in 2018 and 2019, and $29.5 million in 2020. It was a no-brainer for Cespedes to opt out of the final two years of his contract in order to test free agency, but the Mets made it a top priority to keep him around. He ended up getting two more years and $55 million by opting out, so both sides ultimately got what they wanted. Now that the Mets have successfully re-signed Cespedes, they have a number of scenarios to mull over with their outfield. It's now likely that Jay Bruce is traded elsewhere. Curtis Granderson is also a possibility to be moved.

John Perrotto of FanRag Sports hears that there is an "80% chance" that the Pirates trade Andrew McCutchen by the end of the winter meetings.

The smoke surrounding a potential McCutchen trade thickened considerably on Wednesday, with FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reporting that the outfielder is potentially the "most likely to go" among all rumored trade candidates in the early going. The Pirates aren't just fielding calls, either, as Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan relayed (also on Wednesday) that the team is aggressively courting potential trade and reaching out themselves. The Nationals, Rangers and Mariners have been linked to McCutchen this month.

Multiple outlets are reporting that MLB and the MLBPA have agreed on a new, five-year collective bargaining agreement.

Baseball fans can breathe easy, as it looks like there will be no threat of a work stoppage any time in the near future. Per the New York Post's Joel Sherman, the luxury tax threshold will open at around $195 million and rise over the course of the new agreement to eventually bring it to approximately $210-215 million. Sherman further relays that there will be a penalty of 60-70% for those who exceed that threshold by a significant margin. Also of note in the new CBA, while free-agent compensation will still take place in the form of the signing team surrendering a draft pick, first-round picks will no longer be in play on that front. There was also discussion of increasing the 25-man roster to 26, but that ultimately did not come to pass.

The new collective bargaining agreement has done away with the rule giving homefield advantage in the World Series to the league that wins the All-Star Game.

Great news for fans of logic and reason. It was truly one of the dumbest things in professional sports. Homefield advantage for the World Series will now be determined by the pennant winner with the best regular-season record, as it should be. Also a major new part of the new CBA: the minimum (non-concussion) disabled list stint is now 10 games instead of 15.
