Actually, you're not wrong. The gear system on a baitcaster is a lot better than the coil system of a spincast. It gives for better retrieve and much better power. When you reel in on a spincast and the fish is fighting you can feel/hear the line slipping sometimes.

EDIT: I mean a spinner rod not a spin cast. I forgot that spin cast is something legit here that people use and was just throwing around slang for spinner rods.

been a few weeks since i did any fishing because i been riding out in the dez + thanksgiving and all but today was Poway Lakes trout opener. Stocked with Nebraska tailwalker rainbow trout. So since i already held a 10 day pass i went to the lake and stood shoulder to shoulder(little exaggeration :P) with all the other anglers and threw my line out. malo cheese mellos with powerbait and split shot weights...

2lb 19inches and the smaller one was 1lb

The night before i promised my doggie that if i got a fish i would let her lick its head. She had to get her tongue ready as she was so excited.

ahh TOO MJUCH PRESSURE!!!!!

Got three rainbows like this over two trips the other week.

All 17" - 18" and just under 2lb
Photo doesn't do them justice - I always get the wrong angle with fish. I managed to make the second one look much smaller as I had its head in a dip.

Beautiful condition with a bit of tail wear which I think may from creating spawn nests in the gravel (it's a lake they don't spawn anyway) Either that or the resident perch have been after them.

fried and smoked they were a real treat

nah - yours look pretty skinny. They are in pretty poor condition looking at the gills and the missing scales.

Mine were fat little buggers and I was surprised they were not heavier.

Bait caster then.

running 4lb test fishing for trout in really clear water and i notice a bass so i threw a skinny gold crankbait(someone gave me for chrsitmas like 15 years ago and i never touched it) thinking what the hell maybe it will go for it. Then i notice a trout about 25 ft away coming towards it. It hunts it down and hits it hard. some guy on the dock was saying it was like a 6lb trout and they been watching it swim around the dock all morning... i think it was more like 3lb but I do know my medium light pole was really bent anyhow fighting for a min then it shook my hook. i guess i didnt set it hard enough. which i am noob at with this light line going for trout.

anyhow even tho i didnt land the fish this was my first experience with a crankbait and actually seeing the fish hit it... all the people on the dock were watching and i got a lot of yaaayyys and aaawwwws when i lost it.

Very exciting and i will be trying more crankbaits next week.

Nice looking trout, lads. I haven't had a chance to get out in a few weeks. My buddy and I went out crabbing a few weeks ago off Point Roberts, WA. An hour and a half landed us 6 Dungeness keepers. We're hoping to get out once more before the WA state season closes.

We're hoping next year to be able to trap some Puget Sound king crab or brown box crab for delicious feestings. I've got some people at the local aquarium trying to get some info on them for me.

fly fishing isn't that much harder than a baitcaster once you figure out the rules. Lefty Kreh has the best system i bet.

I have a fly outfit - bought it two years ago along with boxloads of flies and stuff.

never used it yet, I aim to go to a local place and do a weekend course so I learn it properly from the get go rather than making a hash of it - just never got time but I will try to go in the new year

went back with the same crankbait this morning. early bite was on... 3rd cast and 5th cast hit landing me 2 trout. My 2nd pole which i let sit with powerbait on a carolina rig was getting hit a lot as well just none of em took it. i think i have a size 12 treble hook on that. i have a feeling that they can feel it and keep spitting... gonna go down to a 16. i keep forgetting to take a pic when they are still alive. beautiful fish but they die fast even on a stringer through the lip.

maybe tomorrow i will get a fresh pic for yall.

only one this morning.

was a scrappy guy tho. prolly one of the funner fish i have had recently. I am also getting better at keeping it alive on a stringer. it stayed alive till i left a few hours later.
