New Windows 7/8/8.1 updates spy on you just like Windows 10
Quote:
KB3080149 ***8220;This update aligns down-level devices on the same UTC binary that***8217;s released in Windows 10. This update would enable all the down-level devices to receive the software updates, design updates, and additional power and performance tuning.***8221;
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3080149
In simple words, both these updates, if downloaded and installed will snoop on you and report back certain data to the Microsoft servers.

How do I turn off the "Upgrade to Windows 10" popups in Windows 7?

I have not done this yet.

If you are not interested in Windows 10, you can remove this program from your PC. Go to Windows Update->Installed update, remove KB3035583. Also, you need to hide the update again in windows updates to prevent it from auto installing again since this is marked ***8220;important***8221;.

It's probably going to be a while before DX12 is really used to its potential. I wouldn't upgrade just for that.

How hard is it to downgrade? I don't feel like doing a clean install. I upgraded to 10 yesterday because that damned pop up is showing constantly in Win 7 and now the CPU is pegged at 100% all the time. If I kill the process (usually something like Google Update checker taking up 30% for no reason) something else in the system just ups its CPU utilization so its back at 100%
I can't even use a windows browser or open up any applications.
I don't know how to fix this and I can't find that this is a known issue when I left the house. Anyone hear of anything like this? Win 7 was working just fine and super fast.

that might be it.. also, check your startup apps. you might want to disable plenty **** that' is slowing your pc.
I'm running windows 10 on 2 computers. my old one which had win7 - it's running faster. which is great. and on this new pc i've bought last month. an i5-5200U with 8GB DDR3L ram and it's a really fast OS. I'm happy. Still getting used to some things. Too bad these *****es don't have Cortana with portuguese language yet. Oh well.
by the way, does anyone know a safe and fast way for files transfer from my old pc to the this new one?! is the OneDrive cloud thing used for that? Or is there any other program? thanks..

I installed Win10 on my crappy 6-year old netbook ("built for XP" sticker) with Atom processor and 2 GB memory. I runs considerably faster than it did under Windows 7.

i upgraded my surface pro to win 10 and it deleted all the **** i had on my desktop; i also had the audio driver randomly crash the other night & had to restart to get sound back. Minor issues, but definitely not a seamless upgrade as I had hoped

Another method for blocking it I found.
Quote:
You can block the Win 10 Update icon from showing and disable notifications.
Using the Windows registry editor, do this:
Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE\Policies\Micros oft\Windows\Gwx
Create a new REG_DWORD registry value called: DisableGwx
Give it a value of: 1

It seems like Windows 10 does a lot of talking back to Microsoft even after you adjust the privacy settings. Some information is being shared with MarkMonitor, which is a large anti-piracy company. Until MS is more clear on privacy and what specific information is being shared with third parties, it's probably best to stick to Win7 or something like Mint for your "try it before you buy it" habits.

With the small app, don't check the last option if you want Bing.com to work.
