Mars rover stopped and looked down and saw a small, reflective object on the Martian ground. What is this thing? Is it Smithore? Is it the alien bio-metal from the Battlezone game? Is it unobtanium?

It's clearly an exposed piece of a much larger spaceship buried in the martian sand.

Looks like a rock surrounded by rocks laying on a rock partially covered in rock dust.

Is anybody else bothered by the fact that the exposed wireing looks so shoddy on the rover?

Does it matter? The thing traveled hundreds of millions of miles, hit the atmosphere perfectly, deployed parashutes, and then landing by being lowered on a skycrane with freakin rocket boosters, and you're concerned about the wiring?

Oh that's Curiosity? Cool. I saw these big interesting metal machinery things top and bottom left in the pic, and couldn't figur why everybody was impressed by the fleck, and not by the machinery it had found.

i've always thought the same thing

not only does it look somewhat shoddy, but i think the weather can be pretty brutal on mars. you'd think they'd want to protect the wiring harnesses a little better...
