Online retail giant Amazon.com would start collecting and remitting sales taxes in Virginia on Sept. 1, 2013, under an agreement announced by Gov. Bob McDonnell's office and advanced by a House of Delegates committee Wednesday.

They've been fighting it here in Indiana, so I'm going to guess they'll soon be doing the same here.

Certain sellers on eBay collect sales tax. It is the better option by far though since eBay has no obligation to enforce it.

I'm pretty sure I read a news story a couple weeks ago that boiled down to a California court finding that Amazon having to collect sales tax in the first place wasn't allowed, so a reprieve is irrelevant. I'll try to find it again.
