U.S. was prepared to fight Pakistani forces, officials say - CNN.com

(CNN) -- The Obama administration had "very detailed contingency plans" for military action against Pakistani forces if they had tried to stop the U.S. attack on Osama bin Laden's compound, according to two U.S. officials familiar with the plan.

Their names are not disclosed because of the sensitive intelligence information involved.

"No firepower option was off the table" during the Navy SEALs' 38-minute mission on the ground, or during the time U.S. helicopters were in the air, one official told CNN. "We would have done whatever we had to in order to get our men out."

Pretty badass considering how close it happened to Pakistan's "Westpoint." They had 40 mins to notice all the helicopters and gunfire but never showed up.

i cant be the only person who questions this, right?

if this place was in the hear of their "westpoint" why did it take so fucking long for their police force to show up to respond to heavy gun fire and freaking helicopters?

and black people in the US complain when it takes police longer than 6 minutes to arrive to their gun fire.

Couple things you are forgetting. Stealth helicopters that from reports were virtually silent. So much so that the combatants inside were not even armed, indicating that they never heard the troops coming. In addition, chances are the SEAL team was using suppressed weapons, so the only shots that rang out were probably from the first combatant they encountered and chances are he didn't get off to many rounds. The only major indicator that something big was going down was when the team blew up the helicopter, which if I had to guess was on the way out.

yeah thats the impression i get from the reports

those helicopters must be pretty badass

Surprised we didn't nuke the compound from orbit to make sure the stealth secret stayed secret

Pakistani army probably thought it was OBL burning trash. Seals did blow through a door on their way in. Our guys had night vision scopes, they had AKs in the dark. Not much of a fight there. It's like playing CS:S and being flash banged.

The first idea was to bomb the compound with B-2s from above using daisy cutters.

Problem was, it would have taken out houses near by, and we would have no proof OBL was killed.

wasn't there a guy tweeting live during the attack about very loud helicopters flying over his house

Yes, delayed reaction. No one knew what it was. And by the time they figured it out, the Amerikens were gone. He thought it was an invasion of the entire country.

@ReallyVirtual FAQ - Sohaib Athar

there was one hovering over his neighborhood during the event. He did hear the explosion (at the end of the operation) and apparently locals heard the gun fire during the operation. It does seem a little odd that , assuming locals heard gun fire and the helicopter hovering and those events are considered out of the ordinary, there was no response from pakistani police or the military or anything for 40mins.

Power and cell phone service 'mysteriously' shut down for 40 mins.

The Pakistani likely knew the day would come when something was going to happen. They likely knew what was going down ... but they are not going to come to the aid of Osama Bin Laden and end up looking like Pakistan is siding with the worlds most infamous Terrorist. The last guys who did that... it didn't work out so well for them.

I doubt the American's gave a heads-up to Pakistani authorities. The risk of spoiling a golden opportunity was just too great. However, I doubt the Pakistani were surprised by it either and probably expected it and decided before hand that they would not interfere.

Pakistan is a tad complicated... Osama has been as much a pain in Pakistan's ass as he has been, or ever was, beneficial to them.
