    Hut Trip meal ideas?

So I'm going on a 4-day/3-night hut trip next month. Assuming we get more snow it'll be 4 hard days of backcountry skiing, so lots of calories needed. The approach is 7 miles on foot so weight is an issue, but quality is important (under absolutely no circumstances will we stoop to crap like...

Anti-abortion crowd using the ignorant to further their means

And by "the ignorant" I mean "southern rednecks." Mississippi personhood amendment poised to pass - The Washington Post They know that they don't stand a chance trying it in places with an educated populace (it's been tried twice in CO and failed with over 70% "no" votes each time), so they're...

    Pro-tip: Don't order Papa John's pizza if you're stoned

Pizza guy calls cops on customer who smoked marijuana | Video | 9news.com Cliffs: dude smokes some medical pot, gets the munchies, and orders a pizza. Pizza driver flips his shit when he smells it and sees that there is a kid in the house (legal under state law). Police come and search his...

[High Altitude Fun-times] Skiing Grays [pics]

After the previous day’s hike and descent of Huron Peak, I found myself at home trying to figure out what to do for the evening. Nothing sounded appealing – not watching a movie, going out, listening to music – except for going to bed. Being one to believe there’s usually a good reason behind it...

[High Altitude Fun-Times] Skiing Huron Peak [photos]

After Capitol a few weeks ago, I decided I was hanging up my skis for the year. It just made sense, at least from a timing standpoint – I needed to be at work the next couple weeks, I had the Walker/Konsella wedding to attend the following weekend, and an Ironman the weekend after that. And...

[High Altitude Insanity] Capitol Peak {the raddest shit I've ever done} (pics)

Just a few short days ago, Marc, Carl, and I were joyously recovering at Fatbelly Burgers in Carbondale. We were there two weeks prior, but with a more somber mood. Maybe it’s because Carl punched a rabbit in the face, but I think the biggest change was that we had just skied Colorado’s hardest...

[High Altitude Insanity] North Face of Longs Peak - Finally [pics]

I’ve been trying to get a ski descent of Longs done for a while now. A few years ago an attempt was cut way short by logistical errors. In March of 2009, I made the summit but the mountain was bone dry above the top of the trough. A couple of weeks ago it looked like conditions would shape up...

[High Altitude Insanity] Ski/Paw descent of Mt. Sherman [pics]

As always, this TR is also available on my personal site (here). I’d been hoping to tick this one off quite a bit earlier in the season, but the weather just hasn’t been cooperating (and by that, I mean it’s been snowing non-stop all spring). Along for the ride were Lauren (skiing her first...

[High Altitude Insanity] Windy day on Mt. Lincoln [pics]

FYI, I skied another 14er (Mt. Massive) last month and never got around to posting it up here. It was a frustrating day and as soon as I was done writing the TR I didn't want to think about it for a while. That's here if you'd like to read it. On to yesterday: Earlier this week, Hans and I...

Tell me what monitor to buy (and also speakers probably)

I'm currently on duals but will be down to a single monitor in a few days. That single monitor is a 21.5" ASUS, 1920x1080. It's not the greatest monitor in the world but it works, and was cheap. It cannot be put in to portrait mode due to the stand. I will be purchasing a new monitor and don't...

    My dog loves skiing [pics]

You know the drill, most of the good stuff in this thread, a few more + words here. I finally got her out this season. We went on a few-hour tour starting from the top of Berthoud Pass. This first shot even was the cover-shot for the day of a colorado snow forecast website late last week.

    [pics] Three-day skikend

I took full advantage of this long weekend and got some good skiing in. If you want words and a few more photos you can check out Saturday, Sunday, and today separately. Saturday, at Berthoud Pass: Sunday, also at Berthoud Pass: Today, at Loveland: Did you bros have a good weekend?

    Astronomy nerds [help]

I'm planning a trip for mid-March right now, which coincides with a full moon. There will likely be some climbing at night, but I am unable to figure out where in the sky (north/south) the moon will be shining from, even after reading a couple Wikipedia articles. Of course if it's cloudy we'll...

[High Altitude Insanity] Ski Yale [pics]

First 14er descent of the season. Full TR here. Cliffs: Saw a photo online about a week ago that looked like it might go from the top but it wasn't a very good shot. Started planning, partners came and went and ended up with a decent-sized group of snowshoers.
